I've spent about £180 each on my 9 year old and 6 year old and about £100 on my 8 month old, But feel they have way too much! The little one has 5 small prezzies and a sit n ride and the other two have 10 things each! Is there an average amount parents tend to spend???

very true.......all depends on your financial situation and what you regard as too much , too little etc.
Personally we dont go mad at xmas as we like to spend the money on holidays abroad :)

this year we have spent about 400 on each of ours-some years we have spent more-some years less.

they also get taken to disneyland paris for the new years eve fireworks and a few nights stay so we have to factor that into total cost of christmas.

we don't go mad, if my little one needs bits them he gets them through the year, same as i did and still do with my mum and dad, lol

this year i have spent less, but retail is more than usual as i have brought some cracking deals, elmo live, half price from additions and v tec digital camera with £50 discount from additions, and picked up some top tips from this site. on my present list this year i have two colums, one of which it actually cost me and the other what it should have been !! saved loads being a savy shopper

xxx

ps my little boy is only 5, i know it will cost more as they get older !!!

IMO Only give them what you can afford & what feels right for you ... if it feels too much then it probably is! you could always put some away for birthdays or sell some!

I haven't paid full for anything! My eldest son is having a 24" really nice bike, 3 sets of lego, something transformers, tech deck set, mobile phone, 2 board games and a tamagotchi!

My daughter is having a ds and game, pink cd player, hsm stuff and sylvanian families!!!!

I've SPENT £180 each but the value is much much more!

We've done just that, his birthday is in February and we realised we'd bought too much when wrapping so put some away for his birthday :)

Mine have had about £120 each - I've saved lots of money through the year - buying things in the sales.

I think people spend too much on their kids these days - when we have our little one next year, I don't intend to take up this habit.

When I was a kid, I recall always getting one present that was 'special' and 2-3 smaller stocking fillers. My mum brought us up on her own mostly, and that was all she could afford. This certainly never amounted to todays equivalent in the 100s of pounds - nowhere near it.

I understood that she could only afford so much, even at a young age, and now appreciate what I have a great deal more, I feel.
