Im thinking of starting Karate or Judo lessons - it looks a good way to keep fit and meeting new people

Can anybody tell me what I need to get started and how much is reasonable per lesson etc

Oh yeah Im 25 and dont wana be stuck in a class full of ten year olds - is this likely at a beginners level?

Any links to places in Liverpool that people can recommend would be great

thanks

Blinding way to keep fit and meet people mate, it will give you confidence also , i pay 3 quid a lesson at my martial arts class, theres probably loads in liverpool mate but you may need to narrow down what style you want first as karate and judo are very different

oh and yes you will have to start in the beginners class mate, i still goto the beginners class sometimes before the advanced class as it is always good to go over the basics that you can forget after a few years, you have got to lose any inhibitions

My son attends a Black Belt School and I current pay £47 per month and he attends 3 lessons a week plus instructor training.

There is one here, 30 day free trial http://www.martialartsliverpool.com/

hey matey, i dont really like the karate that is taught nowadays, id go with judo if i were u, people i know who do judo are able to take care of themselves very well and its great for fitness, if they grab u, if literally feels like they have a clamp for a grip. anywhere from £5-10 an hour would be reasonable id say.

kungfu is a good member to talk to if ur interested in karate his friends have connections in that martial art, as i said before tho, id go for judo.

it depends on where you live as to how the class will be.as you're in a city like liverpool then you should be able to find classes that are age related. my son studied karate for about 8 years and in his class the age ranged from 7 to 70 but then we live in a small town and the sensei only held 2 classes a week. but yes its fantastic to keep fit as well as improving discipline and self control

Also depends what you want, self defense or maybe to learn to fight competatively? we have two instructors... one is totally on the self defence tip..and the other is a cage fighter so we get best of both

btw just thought id add a note on training with younger ppl, i get why u wudnt want to have lots of young kids in ur class, but u can actually sometimes learn alot from these kids, they sometimes do something a little different and when u see it u think "wow thats a good idea" and u end up copying them.

thanks some good info there

im probably more inclined towards the Judo aspect, its mainly to keep fit and try something new, I dont really anticipate going down the competitive fighting route

how much would the clothing etc cost?

judo will be the far better way to keep fit as it really involves the whole body and is full contact.

How funny, I was just thinking about taking this up today after watching an episode of WifeSwap :giggle:

I think i'd prefer Judo.. but im tiny, 5ft1 and have the strength of an ant to boot, do you think Judo would be the most suitable for me or perhaps find another sport where weaklings can rule!? :w00t:

I too am tiny and manage fine doing the karate. Its more technique than strength.

I have no knowledge of judo but I am sure others will help there
