I am not saying this to be cruel, but what is the purpose of raising money?
This is tragic but before I donate I need to be certain how money would help. I feel deep sorrow for the Rough family and if you can explain how this will help I would be more than happy to donate to this family who are grieving in a time of unspeakable tragedy.

Sure it's a sad story but donating for this seems a bit silly. They already have a 14k freebie as it is, they're rolling in it.
hardly rolling in it, you have no information what this affected family will do with the funds, undoubtedly, in my mind, they will do good with this money. Too tragic. Too tragic.
Define "do good" with the money? They haven't said they're in a financial mess. 14k is more than what some people make in a year. They're capitalising on their girl's death trying to make a quick buck. Quite sick really.

The page wasn't set up by her parents so the comment about them capitalising on their daughters death is completely false and totally out of order.

Just to let you know that I am donating and I cannot imagine how much pain it is to lose a child and feel sorrow for both families, so much healing needed.

It seems to happen all the time these days no matter what the circumstances. I find it all a bit odd.

Context:
Little Katie Rough was allegedly missing from home for 45 minutes before she was found fatally injured.
The parents of the seven-year-old schoolgirl had reportedly called police on Monday stating she had not been seen by her mum for almost an hour.

Katie Rough, 7, died after being slashed across neck and chest with Stanley knife
It is claimed that the report came in 13 minutes after police had received another call stating a child had been found in a serious condition.
A 15-year-old was later arrested and charged with murdering Katie.

I live literally 5 mins away from where she was! Its horrible poor little baby! The funds are for what ever the family needs, funeral costs etc

To raise money to give to her family to help them through this terrible time without any other worries. To spend on whatever they need, from the costs of Katie's funeral to helping them pay for bills etc until they are ready to restore as normal a life as they can.

I live about 10 mins away from where it happened too. It's absolutely heartbreaking.

There is no need for this. If the family couldn't afford a funeral then fair enough. What are we raising money for? that's probably the last thing on their mind. If they openly said they were struggling financialliy then sure, I would donate.

It's a nice thing to do though and shows people care, that will probably be more comforting than the money.

Funeral costs, time off work without worrying about the bills... It's worth doing.

The CICA (criminal compensation) will pay out money to cover the funeral and will award compensation to the parents / siblings .
Hopefully any money from the gofund will go to a charity or something similar

It's more than I make in a year. But that hasn't stopped me donating. They 're not capitalising on Katie's death, the fund was actually set up by a complete stranger . Show some compassion.

Yeah, I'd replied before I'd finished the thread. Someone across from me at work was saying the exact same thing this morning.

Does this happen every time a child is murdered or is this case different?

Depends how far the story is shared. If it's a social media hit, then more likely to have a gofundme page or two made by strangers trying to help.

If it's a quieter issue, then you wouldn't hear about the gofundme (if there is one). A shame really, otherwise everyone gets the same treatment when a life is lost.

It's undoubtedly a horrific tragedy, and i have every sympathy for the family and friends and hope that somehow they will manage to get some sort of closure and justice in time. But for me theres just not enough information about what the funds would be used for so...
Sorry, I'm out.

probably best to wait until after the identity of the older girl is revealed by the court, lots of rumours that they are a family member so the donations may end up going towards the perps legal costs.
I doubt any refunds will be available if/when that happens

From one perspective a Parent should never have to bury a child. It isn't something they ever have on their radar of things to budget for and nor should it be. Were it more local to me I would donate. Not that I don't thunk this isn't worthy, I do a lot locally that I can't start picking and choosing.
It's such a shame that this has happened and I see the benefit of a crowdfunding page. I would hate to see these things become common place and open to abuse\fraud. Maybe these funding sites need to set up a proxy payment method. I am not inferring this page is fraudulent but at some point some pages will be, ruining everyone's good will.

I doubt they will reveal (officially) the name of the perp as she is a minor herself.

Not really, I just think that If it is the truth then I think it's even more tragic for the family and in my mind at least further re-enforces how helpful this go funding campaign will be for the family

I think I'm going to delete this post, as there has been a lot of negative feedback . The hole point of doing this was to try and help a family in need, by showing them our support.

I think it would be good to keep this open because many people will donate despite the negativity of others.

Not sure If that was a sarcastic 'right' or not..... I have 4 kids myself. I can't even begin to understand what pain this family is going through but If a few quid from people can go to this family so they can take time out from work and life in general to try and carry on then it's worthwhile in my eyes.

you seem to have picked up on my comment in a negative manner, not sure why but it was not intended that way I can assure you.

According to whats been said here they were step sisters both had the same dad. Dont believe all that is said in the papers, they are pulling the story in anyway to get more stories! It never even came out what had happened but a few papers already 'had a story' on her! Its cruel! Poor familys getting some right **** at this awful time!
