This guy has history, Is this a straightforward case of racism or should Channel 4 have acted differently? Do you agree with the ruling?

My first impressions are that the ruling is out of order.

Totally agree with MacKenzie on this, anyone presenting the news on a public service broadcast should be impartial and seen to be impartial,a presenter wearing any religious symbol while presenting what should be a factual and un-biased account could be open to allegations of impartiality thus rendering the items being shown subject to question of being non-partizan.

Was she dressed in the attire she would normally be wearing at her place of work? I assume that is the case, and can't help but think this all came about because she was reporting on a specific incident. That then makes it a different scenario to my mind.

It's still a fee world (almost) - he had an opinion and voiced that opinion

Pointing the racist finger just because he wrote what many thought is why "racism" is losing so many supporters.

Some on here will easily point the racist finger because it's easier than understanding/accepting fact and evidence.

You are out of your depth making statements like that, phil'. However, it is correct that some members on here should be better informed in order to understand issues.

Calm down, dave'. Never said it wasn't a free world. Enjoying seeing your opinion in defence of 'Sir' Philip Green getting a good airing at the moment. Good luck.

Of course people should be able to have opinions. I had a quick look at the woman's twitter feed/account (whatever I'm meant to say), and she's a decent lady who seems to attract unwanted attention. She mentions she's pleased to see ISIS being trounced and she gets hounded.

Come on, phil' - don't do your normal thing and run for the hills when your blanket statements are challenged, always hiding away behind 'liking' other member's comments. When I return in a few hours, I look forward to reading the 'fact(s) and evidence' that you will present to assist the 'understanding' of others in this matter.

We need the French police to rip her gear off and make her present the news in her bikini.
That's kelvin Mackenzie in a nutshell or Katie Hopkins and a few others.
Let's have EDL present the news live from inside a mosque hounding old men.

If you have a look at 5 pillars Facebook and twitter a/c she seems to get a lot of abuse for being immodest in her attire so I guess whatever she wears she cant win.

He has a point though doesn't he. Following the Macpherson report the definition of racism has been diluted to the point where it is practically meaningless. Cultural appropriation - racism. Curiosity about the texture of a persons hair - racism. Not being aware that a term of reference that was acceptable a few years ago has suddenly become a taboo - racism. looking at someone a bit funny - racism. getting up and sitting in another seat because the smell of weed is giving you a migraine - racism. You (or anyone else) perceive it as racism then its racism.
Or don't you agree (that he has a point) and if so why?

Happy to have an exchange on this, Fred. First though, I await a more detailed perspective from phil' with the specific 'fact(s) and evidence' to support his post.

I suppose there's an element of truth to that. If an orthodox Jew was reporting for Channel 4 news on Hamas shelling of Israeli towns I believe that would cause a reaction too.

This shows how the same item of jewellery can create different outcomes

im afraid youre wrong in this case, he was being a bigot. she was doing her job. his comments suggested that she shouldnt have read the news because she was a Muslim and because of her clothing so implying that she was in sympathy with the extremists. in fact he was saying that all Muslims are in sympathy with extremists. a stupid argument to have been made.

the ruling in fact was against ipso's own rule book. thats what happens when there is self regulation.

why do these bigots such as mckenzieonly seem to express their outrage towards Muslim women. you know its the old skool misogyny except they know they can get away with it if its directed at a Muslim woman.

there is no right to absolute free speech in the uk and there is no absolute right to be offensive , we have laws. it is this silly idea of having the right to be offensive and free speech that ultimately gave us the Holocaust.

And what of all the bigots who attack Fatima Manji because they find the choice of her attire too revealing. The kind of bigots who hang around websites like Five Pillars?

hitlers free-speech / right to offend was what allowed the demonisation and dehumanisation of jewish populations.

as a consequence those who opposed 'free speech' and 'right to offend' .. became enemy of the state and so victims of the holocaust.

The same kind of people who now attempt to redefine such things as Zionism in a propaganda campaign of demonization and dehumanisation of the Jewish population of Israel.
