Does anyone know what has happened to this club in Brenchley, Kent?

I believe it was sold in 2008 and then 4 months later put back on the market for £750k.

Cant seem to find any info via Google.

Hi - I thought the club house and 7 acres was sold for £2m and then the club ran for a couple of months from the portakabin for the 200 or so remaining members - and then closed at the end of October 08. I had a feeling that it had been sold to the same people that own the Sussex National but because of lack of money and planning permission for a new club it's remained closed.

I sometimes drive past there to see if there's any life up there as I live nearby but I've never seen anyone around - I'm not sure whether there are groundsmen looking after the course or whether it's been left to ruin.

I wish it was still open - it's one of my all time favourite courses - some fantastic holes on the course.

Cheers phillwin for taking the time out to make your first post.

The course (I used to play it when it was Moatlands) was lovely with some of the fastest greens I'd ever played. The bunker on the last which snaked it's way up the entire fairway and across the front of the green was crazy. I once played with a fella who tee'd off into the bunker and played the next 5 shots in the bunker along the whole of the fairway - he was raking for about 20mins.

I honestly cant believe the place is just being left unused. I did hear that the greenkeepers were still there and that the course was immaculate as no one was playing on it. The clubhouse was lovely - just wish I could win the lottery and buy the place. I wonder what happened to all the members?

Playing Hever Castle GC tomorrow.......hoping to enjoy the first throws of summer !

Sorry to disappoint, but I know someone who was a member there... They couldn't get planning permission for a new clubhouse so the whole place has apparently gone to ruin. I believe there is a public footpath over part of the course, which one of my colleagues took a stroll over. You can still see parts of the course, bunkers etc, but I've been told it's overgrown with weeds now.

Unbelievable..........I really did like the course and the clubhouse. Anyone fancy getting a syndicate together to buy it?

I was the Project Manager who built the course for the original Japanese owners, we did not get involved in the Clubhouse as we had problems with getting planning permission for a new one, so the owners decided to do up the old house which was in a bit of a mess at the time. Had a couple of great years down there and met all the locals who mostly were not happy the course was being built. Each hole had a 150 - 300 mm sand carpet which formed the sub base, hence why it was the only course to remain open in the wettest of winters, an inland links course, we left a rather large hole not far from Maidstone where the sand came from. I can tell you the contstruction of the course was considerably more than £750k all those years back. A shame it has failed, it was high specification and needed a lot spent on it to maintain it and for whatever the reason that did not happen.
I heard a rumour that Davina McCall was interested in buying it. A friend of mine bid for the greenkeepers equipment that was being auctioned this year

Thanks for the info - such a shame as the course had so much potential.

Seems the land was up for sale recently at £900k:-

Are you working on any new projects?
