After a successful outing playing "Battlefield: Bad Company 2" for a few months (primarily on the PlayStation Network, but also on Xbox 360 & PC platforms) there has been significant interest from some of the existing "BFN" clan in turning (or returning) attention to playing "Killzone 2" online.

As this is a PlayStation 3 [PS3] only title, then we will unfortunately be limiting the inclusion of some HotUKDeals.com members, but perhaps we can look towards Xbox 360 &/or PC specific titles for online multiplayer matches at a later date.

For now, though, this "Misc" thread is to collate the details of all those members who wish to play "Killzone 2" online, their PlayStation Network Id user name, the days/times available to play, & any playing preferences (such as preferred map locations &/or soldier classes, if known).

Depending on numbers we may organise into one or more clans to play co-operatively with each other, or competitively against each other.
Once we have had sufficient practice we can, as was the case with "Battlefield: Bad Company 2", challenge other clans to matches or subscribe to the regular tournaments that are organised at the Killzone.com web site.

Swapping log-on details will initially be used to communicate online & invite each other to games we are participating within until we can get to know each other's strengths & weaknesses prior to taking our clan(s) further into battle.

Most of all, though, we will have fun playing alongside (or against) other HotUKDeals.com members.

Thanks for subscribing to the thread & participating when you can.

If we need more members regularly or for particular matches, I can enquire if any of my previous clan [TSR] "Three Speech Regulars" are available:

Please note that you will need to register at Killzone.com to see these details.

I've not played it online! Found some unlock guide and multiplayer tips on Gamesrader.

Can you play co-op on the single player missions? I didn't finish it yet - maybe worth practising on CPU's before real folk!

@FP - Thanks for setting this page up. Does everyone need to be Corporal Rank before they can Create / Join a squad? Same for Sergeant rank to join a Clan?
Might be some pre-requisites here and an excuse to rank up before playing together!

You cannot play the single player game co-operatively with another player (locally or online), but you can use the "Skirmish" mode to play offline with & against PS3-controller "bots" set to a skill level of your choosing in all of the online multiplayer maps.

When the game was first released it wasn't realised that players were playing ranked games in this manner & artificially inflating their own rankings by playing with the "bots", but a early patch to the game corrected this so that "Skirmish" type games are now unranked.

I have not even started the single-player (offline) campaign mode. I jumped straight into the multiplayer online games (as I was one of the original Beta test team members for the online modes).

@ FP - Thanks for confirming.

Does everyone have the DLC? Might be an issue if not when we play together... wonder how much it is now.... Anyone check on the Store? Thanks.

Even this long after release i've found there are always plenty of people playing online and the matches are really well balanced, even a noob like me managed to get quite a few kills.

Is the DLC worth it? I've not splashed out for it yet, i was waitng for it to be on offer again.

Games online can be restricted to one or more specific maps (played in rotation), and you can choose to avoid downloadable content maps.

Current prices... I'll just "fire up the PS3" & come straight back...

UPDATE:
"Steel & Titanium" pack including the maps "Wasteland Bullet" & "Vekta Cruiser"... £4.79
"Flash & Thunder" featuring "Beach Head" & "The Southern Hills"... £4.79
"Napalm & Cordite" containing "Suljeva Cliffside" & "Arctower Landing"... £4.79

"Map Pack Bundle" (all three map packs; all six maps)... £9.99

BFN,

fp.

PS. You can also restrict games to certain soldier classes, specific weapons (per class), or even individual game types, or a mix of all these & the maps to suit your preferences. You can save a selection as a "playlist" for future recall. You can also restrict matches to your clan, or password protect a match so only those with the password can join it. You can also join a clan match as a "spectator" & not play at all; but just observe... so in times when we may be over-subscribed for a match the other members can still watch, pick up tips & even communicate the opposing team's strategy to the playing clan members.

The killzone.com online service is fantastic also. You can save & "re-load" previous matches & watch then in a top-down 2D view over & over again to see how you got shot in the location you did, or whatever you need to research for upcoming games with anybody else.

Any chance of doing this for Uncharted?

Thanks FP - seems a no brainer to get the Map Pack Bundle (used in conjunction with the cheap £20 PSN cards!)

Replay feature looks good, and seems much more focused on Clan play.
Off topic; BFBC2 has a strategy map, but seems no where near at good as KZ2's site.

If you start a thread... I'm sure they'll come :)

Seriously, I lost interest with "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" quite soon after the Beta trial finished & I played for a few weeks in the full commercial version of the game but it didn't inspire me to continue.

I don't mind returning to see if my opinion has changed, but I don't think I will be buying any of the downloadable content for the online multiplayer maps.

The web-based online support for the game by Naughty Dog is almost as good as that for "Killzone 2" as well... but Guerrilla Games do have the edge.

PS. I'm currently uploading a video with some "Killzone 2" footage from a television programme aired in early 2009. I'll post the link to it when my Internet connection finally decides it wants to help, not hinder.

PPS. One of my [TSR] Clan for "Killzone 2" has shown interest in returning to play alongside us (if that it OK with everybody else) & another member sounds favourable to the idea.

Does anybody have any issue with retaining the [TSR] clan name, or would you prefer to use [BFN] (again)?

The reason I am asking is that you can only be a member of one clan at any one time, & once you leave a clan you have to request re-approval from a Clan Officer or Clan Leader. It would just make my life easier to use the pre-existing clan, but I'm opening the discussion to your thoughts on this.

(I also have a [TSR] clan set-up in “Resistance 2” & “SOCOM: [U.S. Navy SEALs] Confrontation”, although the latter I have not played since the Beta Test version. I continued playing “Resistance 2” online for a while after the Best Test period finished, but have not returned to it for quite some time)

Thanks.

BFN,

fp.

It may be an idea to start a thread (or continue here) with a list of games you own (on whatever platform) that you wouldn't mind having regular online games of & asking others to do the same so that we can find commonalities.

I personally cannot play "...Modern Warfare 2" (see: "HotUKDeals - Petition for colour-blind option in COD: MW2") & I do not own "Red Dead Redemption" (yet, if at all).

The thread I quoted there has some background information about my early issues with the colours used in "Killzone 2" that the developers kindly changed! :)

I so want to keep playing Resistance 2 as I only have 2000 kills, I need another 8000 for a shiny trophy which doesn't mean anything, but does. Found it a bit boring but perhaps might be more fun with some BFN dudes.

Playr Killzone 2 special airs on Bravo UK this weekend!
27 Jan 2009

Playr, the leading video game TV show, has created a special half-hour programme dedicated exclusively to Killzone 2. There’s a sneak (standard definition) preview here, but we highly recommend you take a moment to watch it in all its HD glory, in order to get a true flavour of the Killzone 2 experience. Click here [ http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=8H_g72sOv4c&feature=channel_page ] and then click the link that says ‘watch in HD’ just below the right hand corner of the video.

The episode filmed at Guerrilla Games’ HQ in Amsterdam presents a definitive and comprehensive guide to the highly anticipated PS3 shooter.

Featuring never before seen multiplayer maps, new single player campaign, brand new vehicles and game features such as automatic sentry turrets, and a complete illustration of the game’s 6 character classes, this programme is everything you want to know about the PS3’s killer shooter.

It also goes behind the scenes to reveal the technology and people behind what’s undoubtedly one of the most ambitious games ever made.

Producer Jason Kilshaw commented, “If you’re still unsure whether Killzone 2 is a GOTY contender, then watch this!”

It's a good suggestion but maybe if we add new titles regularly (like this thread) in an ad hoc manner then we may find more members interested in 'dipping into' an online game once or twice a week as they wish rather than being, as you said, more strict or regimented [!] about it.

The trouble with organising a different title for every weekday night, &/or weekend, is that it leaves little room for anybody to try new games or even, heaven forbid, have a life away from HotUKDeals or their games console(s).

Maybe we can just have a "Clan Thread Round-up" type thread that just summarises (by way of a simple) link to all the "Misc" threads so if you wish to start a new clan or online gaming session, you just create a dedicated thread & then post a link in the "Round-up" thread so that everybody knows where to look.

If you fancy a game of anything one night, just look at the summarised "Round-up" & pick one to direct yourself to the individual game thread of choice.

Saves you having to be subscribed to all the individual ones; but I supposed, in practice, that will happen anyway.

I know (elsewhere) there has been a call to perhaps try "Resident Evil 5" in online Co-op, & I would perhaps like to try playing one of the many racing titles we seem to share online at a later date.

Another problem I have with a rota system is that my 60GB PS3 is creaking under the strain of full-to-bursting capacity all the time. I always have to uninstall some game data to play something new (or download more than one demo version from the PlayStation Store in any given week). No doubt whatever I elect to remove I'll be asked to play the same week! :)

(Downloading images or even avatars, Andy, is risky in case it means I don’t have space to watch Christine Lee in “Pulse presented by PlayStation Network” from the US ‘Store every fortnight!)

Anyway... if you wish to start a "wish list" of titles that take your fancy, please go ahead...

BFN,

fp.

Thanks for the video FP, have downloaded and will watch later. I'll give KZ2 a go tonight me thinks.

A "round up" thread is a great idea!

You need to start deleting your Christine's... I mean Pulse videos... 720P (or 1080P) really takes up the HD space! I've transferred her, I mean the video to a portable drive ;)

I'll compile a list of games for later. Cheers!

Oh I do... they are all stored on the external Western Digital (1TB) USB drive by the side of my PS3. She (they) are watched originally in 32-inch HD glory, then copied to my Sony VAIO 17" WUXGA (1920x1200) HD laptop :)

(PS. I've only created a Facebook account to see what the integrated Facebook Trophy feature did on my PS3)

You can also get the PS3 to update your facebook page with what you are currently playing.

My facebook page says "Andrew is currently playing Hannah Montana (the Movie)"

Edited By: [email protected] on Jul 28, 2010 20:33: Just got a gold trophy for horse riding.

Gives a whole new meaning to gaining Xbox 360 achievements... "Gee-up, Neddy".

I avoided allowing my PS3 update my Facebook page in that manner (just like I will disable the facility for "Play TV 2" to update my Facebook status with when & what I am watching when it is released later this year).

Reason being that should anybody learn where my PS3 is (or PS3 consoles, plural, are) located, a simple collation of data over a given time period will establish when I am present at that location & when I am away. This presents a security issue.

Had a bash again at KZ2 (Campaign) - found it tricky to adjust to the controls and player dynamics (movement as such) - might take a bit longer to get good at this! (been on BFBC2 too much lately) - At some points I tried to "spot" the Helghast!!! oO
