You presume a lot...we didn't even get the first Kindle here. At current exchange rates this is about £256 plus another £21 for the leather case. Not cheap.

No kitty-cat you presume a lot. I wouldn't buy this just informing, though the free 3G wikipedia alone is well worth the price but anyone who thinks a stupid game that will be passé next year, is better wouldn't have the foggiest or the brain cell numbers or the synaptic connections in place, just enough for blinding greed maybe. What I am waiting for you don't have a clue about, lets see if anyone knows about it as I think I mentioned it once before and might do gain if you behave. SD cards would have been nice but Kindle 2 will be the top market shareholder and for good reasons not just due to Amazon's PR muscle. You can presume that every anime/manga avatar holder I have ever read on any forum has been a bitter and miserable little boy though. ;-)

"kitty-cat" what are you on ? :?

If you're going to attempt er...witty ripostes, at least wait until you're sober

Can't see any deal here - just a heads up on a US pre-order, and a deranged rant against someone who dared to question the merit in the 'deal'.
Do I get one too?

How many books do you have to buy to make it worth it?
If you are buying that many books, maybe its time to read up on library's.

The Oxford dictionary American version, but if wikipedia and books in general are useless to you, then gaming and poking your eye out while whistling and watching cartoons might be more elementary to you dear Watson though rather sad at your age or andy's. :-D

Of course, Shirlock Holmes that well known American detective. If only I was such an intellectual giant as yourself I would have known that. You really do speak total and utter BS

PS Re books, those paper things I think you mean....amazon send me 2-4 books of my choice (free) to review each month so I must be doing something right

LOL. Funny thread :)

Cold - Customs bill for VAT / Duty at importation in the UK will be very high - be warned.
Also, US powercable and plug, as they are on a different voltage than the UK.

Washere appears, in the words of Private Eye, to be "tired and emotional" in charge of a keyboard. Or is there some other explanation?

$9.99 for a book is cheap? thats about £6.90, give or take, a whole 9p cheaper than the RRP on about half my books... which since I bought a load from amazon, I didnt pay the full RRP :p

andy71 my love, sad but true  but remember the glass is not necessarily always half empty, can be half full. Have a joyful remaining half-life. :)

ajibee, in my regular forays into Asia, have managed to pick up a few splatterings here and there and we can both agree that it is indeed you who is weird as your name implies. :w00t:

The device should be available very soon in Europe too as in their usual roll out so no need to buy from the States. The display is unusually outstanding in daylight, it is very light an slim and apparently sturdy too, has free 3G access to the largest encyclopedia (putting other pricey and old names to near bankruptcy), you can buy any new book or indeed most newspapers and read them anywhere within a minute and the battery life is amongst the best if not the best. Nothing comes even close.

Another point, usually a critic should point out a competitive alternative but as a) since there are none with those features and b) the ones indulging here so far in harsh criticism seem to have no knowledge of the devices nor affinity for books as such I might add, I can only pronounce that I have been amused. :-D Let alone not knowing the better device in the near future I am implying.
