A flawed genius.

Had he not died, Nirvana would possibly have been "just another good band".

Suicide, fail.

Bit over rated IMO, was just seen as cool to think they were great.

Some good songs but not that many.

jus sat reading his wiki..... hmmmm..... seems to have belived the hype and a heck of a lot of drugs.....hmmmm. no denying smells like teen spirit is an amazing record. but to be hinest i do believe the foo fighters have produced fab records as well....and frankly more so!

Artistic flair - I believe there is a gene that is prone to suicidal tendancies. Is there a particular part of the brain that assists artistic ability, but also is prone to depression/suicidal tendendency? I'm not a doctor, but I know/have known people of this ilk.

Nirvana ..right time i suppose...they were different, when music was stale..but nothing makes a legend faster than suicide...Dave Grohl is a far better frontman than Cobain was(he was not a tortured poet..before anyone says that..he was a drug addict, who suffered paranoia and depression)!but they did change music for the better...waste of a life though

Personally I detest anyone who takes their own life regardless of the circumstances.

i have that documentary...i cant even remember what its called all the conspiracy theories..

I am also a believer that drugs (cannabis, weed, whatever) induce paranioa and the inability to coordinate oneself and one's life - giving the feeling of being distant or "on an island where people can't understand what you are trying to say...".
The drugs interrupt your brain and its ability to function, therefore you can't rationalize as well and as such, something like suicide is not a huge bridge to cross, it is a means to overcome the abyss that some people find themselves in...the way to a better situation and in some peoples' minds, to Nirvana or "extinguishing."
This is how I see the situation, according to my experiences.

Courtney love..i used to love HOLE ...but she leeched off him..he was her meal ticket to fame...she even made sure she got attention at his memorial by reading out his suicide note to the public, then the video they made for doll parts was "look at me he is dead and im grief stricken"......i always think she played out the "nancy" role from the whole sid vicous thing with Cobain...like she wanted so hard to be a part of something huge and couldnt attain that by being herself...ooh attain im being posh!

some people say he was murdered and was staged to look like a suicide, who knows?....

Planning... no.

Anyway, imagine you were in pain 24/7 with no cure. Wouldnt you want to end it. I feel sorry for the disable woman who wants to end her life but cant because its illegal.

thought it was suicide is painless....

(sorry just thought of the song lol)

I was thinking more along the lines of financial problems, attention seeking.. reckless behaviour, drugs.. the list goes on.

I certainly wasn't thinking about terminal illnesses ;-).

Whereas I sympathise with them massively. Think about it - a living being's #1 instinct is that of personal survival. How bad must someone's life have become that they simply don't want to exist anymore?

Plus, y'know, given that a global lack of love is what generally spurs suicide on, I'm not seeing how detesting anyone really helps.
#26
There is no justification for killing yourself and leaving behind a wife and child, young child at that..... an infant infact.

For that particular person I have no sympathy. It's not as if he cares since he's been dead for a while now, I'm sure his family are still suffering though.

Well you did say regardless of circumstances.
But suicide over those things you mention, I wouldn't necessarily detest them. Its their life in the end.

The human mind is a very fragile and precious thing, which can be lost devastatingly, horrifically easily.

Kurt Cobain, is a God, he's the epithony (haven''t spelt it right i know)of teenage angst, absolutely adored the "nevermind" cd when it came out, the one cd i played from start to finish, he obviously had issues and tbh if i had his money and his weapons i woud have joined him in shooting myself! My own opinion, i think this world sucks and have done since i was a little kid, it's only 'cos i have 2 kids that i'm here now, i live for them and them only!!!!!!!!!bad i know but it's true!

o hun...... im sure things arnet that bad, we have all felt cr@*py at times ...hugs x

defo agree dave ghrol is way better and franbo60 makes some really valid points!

Curious about the "murder" conspiracy theory. Why would Kurt Cobain be a target for assassination?

Yeah, my friend took her life 3 and a half years ago - seems like yesterday and I still can't believe she's gone. Sad thing is I knew it was coming - but there wasn't anyone that could prevent it - she didn't want to be in the "abyss" any more. When she spoke to me a couple of weeks before she did it, I tried to be positive, but I honestly didn't think I could get through to her, or anyone else could. She was so artistic, so gifted in art and musically and had so much to give, but it didn't matter to her in the end.
I feel for anyone who is friend or family of someone in this situation. Depression is the biggest killer - it is the silent killer that people don't seem to want to talk about.

depression is scary...... had a touch of it after second son was born...really screws up ur thinking...... one of the bigest reasons i dont want anymore kids...its horrible.
#34
I think you are brave to make a tough decision like that - it must be very difficult especially if you had hoped for more kids. But I applaud your reasoning - if you have overcome the depression and are getting on with your life and are ok, then its sensible to not jeapordise your happy balance. I have seen all members of my family suffer from depression of varying forms and actually if you are brave enough and feel strong enough to tackle it head on, then I think you can keep it at a distance. And I think you know any warning signs?
I'm happy for you being at a good equilibrium with the dastardly illness, and I hope you keep it at bay for as long as you possibly can.:friends:
