It depends what you mean by 'dies', FAT32 can be faster on small volumes but suffers on larger whereaas it's the other way around for NTFS. That's in theory anyway as ntfs has more overheard but I don't format my drives as ntfs as it screws compatibility so I can't say I've tested it.
