I imagine some of it has to do with the value of the pound but what else do you think is causing it if indeed it is happening?

I don't really see the link, if it's cheaper than the elsewhere it would still be a deal just that the average price would be higher?

The day before the referendum was the peak of the £ against USD. It went high in the run up because it was a dead cert that we'd vote to stay in. I bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro 16gb for £95 that day, and in the next couple of days it went up to ~£115.
I would say it is definitely why there are no deals, because it's pushed the prices back to where they were on release

Edit: Just had a look and the prices have gone down since, the 16gb is now ~£100

You're kidding right?

Search gearbest or Ali express and just look at the total crap that brings up.

There's a couple of okay ones but there was an absolute deluge of stuff that went quite hot the year before the vote I thought. It was getting out of hand to be honest and frankly the tax arrangements were always questionable anyway. It's not a huge loss I guess.

would rather the tax arrangements benefit individuals in the UK than companies like amazon. as said above search gearbest alieexpress = loads of deals.

I bought a phone from China (Umi Rome) to use abroad. It was as I expected for the price (jank), but it is ok for the purpose.

Title made me laugh, think the Chinese thought "Brexit means no more phones" I hope they crack down on the safety of these sweatshop made fireballs!

The smartphone market has become so saturated that it has likely hit an unsustainable peak.

Wouldn't use Aliexpress or Banggood for smartphones or anything of a greater value than £5.

Yes I hope they do too. I've been quite critical of them on the past on here. I wasn't commenting on the ethics of it here though.

If sales have gone down, maybe they'll be a small uptake in tax as people buy more phones domestically.
