Ladies only - female grooming advice please

I am looking for a new ladyshave and have come across epilators on the Boots sites.

I have never used one of these before. Are they any good and do they hurt?

Which the better out of a shaver or an epilator?

I will be using it for all areas ;-)

TIA

#3
yes they hurt but u are supposed to get used to them

it feels a bit like when your hair gets sucked into the vent on the back of the hair dryer and pulled out by the roots

Epilstors do hurt but has a longer lasting effect as they pull hair out from the root, I myself have a lady shave which doesnt last as long but is alot less painful.

I have a Philips Satinelle Ice Premium Epilator 6517 which I got in the Boots sale half price (£34 instead of £64). I have used it a few times and it doesn't hurt as much as it did the first time (which was very painful). I guess you just get use to it. It is very effective and I would recommend it.

I always used to shave and then started having my legs waxed in a salon which was very painful and expensive so decided to buy an epilator and have been using it ever since. I don't find it as painful as waxing and once you've bought the epilator that's it and I find it lasts around 2 weeks before I need to do them again whereas shaving lasted about 3 days!! My friend has fairer hairs and can go nearly 4 weeks after epilating so I can recommend it. It does hurt but the more you do it the less it does hurt and I find if you do it straight after coming out the bath/shower you can hardly feel it at all (apart from around the ankles - ouch). Just make sure you persevere with it as, like I said, it does hurt the first few times you use it but it DOES get better.

Meant to be very good though.

Failing that, get a cat with a very rough tongue and a can of Whiskas to smear over your legs:thumbsup:

lol

Yeah it does sound good although time consuming something I don't have alot of.

To all the people who have epilators, can you use them on more intimate areas (no pervy comments guys)

Lmao only just saw this, made me laugh

How do you get your hair sucked in the back of the hairdryer

In desparation i have used an epilator on more painful areas and it hurts and you end up looking like a plucked chicken. I think waxing is better for those such areas
I use the epilator for my legs and to start with there is more hair and it is painful but as you do them more regularly you tend to have less ahir to pluck out at the same time. The only problems i have heard about are ingrowing hairs. Some people seem more prone to that as i havent had that problem

I have been waxing my legs for years and a couple of years ago bought an epilator, it doesn't hurt me at all now. I think in more 'intimate' areas, you would have to cut the hair short before you attacked it with an epilator. It will leave your skin a bit sore and red though, so not for immediate exposure!

Spot on thats what i meant when i said a plucked chicken. You have to do it a day or so in advance. Its far better to epilate legs in my opinion as they dont grow back at the same rate and you can get away with doing them far less than if you shave

Thanks for all the advice everyone, now I am swinging towards getting one of each.

This site always costs me money

Used to wax but got expensive but would still recommend in personal areas!! Used an epilator for a couple of years now and it is great, lasts for 3weeks or 1 month, great before going on holiday. Does hurt to start but you do get used to it and it is better than having to keep shaving and you get no stubble just soft hairs.

Thanks peppalouise and welcome to the site :-D

I am having laser... Underarm n bikini line - cost about 500 when I booked as a package for 6 sessions on each area am delighted with the results tho as I have v dark hair which grows v quickly. This is a permanent solution and is not as painful as I thought although v smelly!!

this is me pretending to be a woman...but i have helped my girlfriend epilate before...its fun....for me.

She has also tried it on me...not fun...for me.

Ok epilating is painful on the legs, let alone anywhere else. It is also quite time consuming, more so than shaving. Its easy to miss individual hairs so you have to take your time when doing it. To be honest i would not recommend buying one, they aren't particularly any better than waxing, and takes longer.

Probably worth considering one of the alternatives above, but to be honest i'de give epilating a miss.

However, i think your fella (if you have one) will enjoy watching you do it cause its soooooo funny to watch :)
