Ive recently moved into a new house, and myself and the missus have been trying to sort out a phone line now for over a month...

We tried with Virgin first, the site said we were able to get everything but once we rang them they stated we needed a BT phone line as we werent fully compatible with them...

So we rang BT, they stated we needed to pay £50 deposit, to which we gave bank details numerous times, they kept rejecting this (even though we direct debit many other things) and stated we needed to send a postal cheque for £50, they then gave us a huge address and account number, which doesnt fit on the postal cheque, we cannot currently get through to them either as the length of time they put us on hold is far too much to be done from a mobile / phone box...

After reading up other stories on the web about BT further messing plenty of people around with installing landlines, i need to know if anyone else will provide one other than BT? I am looking to get broadband also (from Be, 24mb for 18.99pm)...

Any help would be appreciated

The problem is that as far as i know BT own all the exchanges apart from some in London.

Why are they so shabbily terrible at providing customer support, when ringing Be broadband about setting that up the call is picked up within seconds, when ringing BT, i was still waiting after 45 minutes

I know. They are horrendous when it comes to customer service. :-(

I hope you get something sorted.

Thats nothing lol, when i wanted to set up my landlines it must have taken be about 7 hours in calls all together and they still gave me the wrong number! I figured that it would be quicker to phone every other company to give them a new number than it would be to get BT to give me my old number back lol.

I can't think of anyone other than BT I'm afraid. The reason they are so awful at everything is because they know they can be and we can't do a thing about it as there's no one else to take our business to :x

The only thing I can think of is if you are able to use someone elses BT line, if you call 150, it's free so at least it's not costing you to get hold of them. But they are dire, and in my experience, tell you bare faced lies down the phone to try and get you to sign up to their monthly direct debit plan too (and this includes the managers !!), so whatever they tell you, take with a pinch of salt

Sent the £50 deposit by postal order last wed, now theyre saying theyve never received anything

Real pisstake tbh, all they need do is give me my number and flick a switch

Mate don't sign up with Virgin if you're not in a cable area they can't supply anything themselves, it's all owned by BT if you're not cabled.
