right git 2 laptops connected via wireless and i'm on a 50mb connection...... when connected via ethernet i can download at 6130kbs and when connected via wireless i only download at 1550kbs......

Does anyone know why this is ??? There's no virus or anything on the lappys, one is brand new straight out the box

Poor wireless signal perhaps?

Do you have any reflective objects around - mirrors or fish tanks?
#2
Hi Zeus, are you using the Virgin media dongle? or just the lappy's wifi card?

Sitting next to the belkin N1 router where do I change aes at? Not using anything virgin media

make sure you use aes instead of tkip

and that will do what exactly

anywho, right this is a theory based on what info you have given,

based on your best DL speed of 6130Kbps, take into account signal strength from AP (Access Point) and that wireless is 1/2 duplex transmission, if your signal strength is mid range on 802.11g (around 24Mbps and halve that) then you have around 12Mbps in total so your DL speed at 1550Kbps sounds about right. Possibly could tweak your wireless for interference, that you AP is not next to a reflective shiny surface, (glass door/mirror/metal door etc), make sure your channel is not too close to any neighbouring channels the best to use is 1, 6, or 11, see what happens for now.

Because wireless is crap.

+10000

if I had a 1000Mbps cable connection at full duplex, why on earth would I want to down grade?

NB, if you use any device on a 802.11n network which isn't n, the whole network will drop to that ie 802.11g

Pleae don't buy that dongle, I have two different Belkin dongles, both look like that but are both different versions and neither work and are complete junk and had to be replaced with other ones.

I have two laptops, one wireless connection. I can only connect to the wireless with one laptop at a time, how can I do it so I can connect both laptops to the wireless both at the same time.
Thank you

you may have to look at your wireless ip settings....make sure your router can and will assign more than one ip address, there's a setting in the router settings that allow you to specify the ip range. mine is set at 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.100 so i can connect 100 wireless devices to my router
