Hi, i'm looking to get a new laptop and have seen the below deal for £399. Is this that good a deal? It is a Dell Inspiron 1545 with extra RAM and Hard Drive. That doesn't sound like a bad deal, is it off the Dell site? Only downside is the poor 4 cell battery, I would opt for a 6 cell if possible.

Yeah its off the dell website. I did think the Battery was poor and can upgrade to 6 cell for an extra £15 bringing the overall price to £415. In terms of memory, hard drive and processer you think this looks alright? Bit of a downside is that it doesn't have a built in webcam (thats an extra £30!!)

You could get this, upgrade to the 320GB Hard drive, Wireless N and the 6 cell battery, use discount voucher to 3FKGVM$6D$Z0SZ make it £388 delivered which is a better deal.

Although the discount code ends at midnight tonight.

Only thing that is missing is the 4096mb of memory (this only has 2048mb). What is the Wireless N (I'm not sure what this is but can't see to add it either) Does the discount code work for other machines?

Have a mess around with the upgrades, maybe you can upgrade the RAM to 4GB instead of adding the larger hard drive.... Do remember that RAM is very cheap and simple to upgrade yourself, I would always go for the bigger hard drive then spend a few pounds upgrading the RAM at a later date.

unless you get 64bit windows you can only use 3GB ram anyways, laptops that come with 4GB ram and 32 windows may say they are using 4GB, but its a lie, Microsoft changed it in vista SP1 to show installed RAM instead of Usable RAM.

I run 2GB ram and run Adobe CS4 suite, office 2007, msn, internet windows pretty much all day and never run out.

Dell include 64 bit windows for no extra cost... but I agree 2-3 GB should be ample, its very unlikely you will utilise the full 4GB

Thanks for the advise guys. I've been having a look around and found this which looks good...

Only thing is the Intel Core 2 Due T5670 (1.8ghz) against the Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core Processor T4200 (2.0ghz) . Which is better?

Also what is Windows 64 bit and what does this give you over normal windows?

EDIT: That is supposed to link to ebuyer...

The T5670 is actually better than the T4200, don't always look at the speed of the CPU

See here http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html

The Dell above recommended by emasu has a T6400 which is even better than the T5670! Although remember that laptop will only be available untill tonight using the discount code.

There are not any physical differences with Windows 64 bit, the main things it does is unitllize more than 3GB of ram, and is supposed to better suit 64 bit processors.

The e buyer laptop looks ok... but like I said earlier doesn't have 64 bit windows so will only use 3GB of the 4GB of RAM installed. The Dell posted by emasu is still better than this if you can use the discount code.

Final Edit-

If you really want to have 4GB of RAM, got to http://configure.euro.dell.com/dells...43&oc=N0554507 change the OS to 64 bit (no cost) the RAM to 4GB, the Hard drive to 320GB, and the battery to a 6 cell. go to checkout and apply the code 3FKGVM$6D$Z0SZ

Total cost £399.59, £419.59 including delivery.
