Laptop buying help

Tami-Tami-

I'm looking to help my mother get a new laptop, she mostly uses her current one for browsing the web, games etc, but it's getting old and she would like to upgrade. What would you suggest for around the £250 mark. I've been looking at some refurbs, but am wary after reading horror stories associated, lol.

Any ideas?

If you buy the cheapest thing on the market, you're going to get a poor quality system that won't perform very well, which makes it kinda pointless as an upgrade, unless she's currently running something really bad. Given the requirements, you might be better looking for a 10" Android tablet.

most people won't notice the different in performance between a £250 and £400 machine

That's a fairly sweeping statement. Although in any case, the difference would become fairly clear when the £250 machine falls apart within a year.
