Is there a LED showing its getting power. Is it the correct Voltage watt etc. Can test power block on different notebook?

If there is pin damaged, should be able to see it. Also is there reason to believe that damage was done..?

no LED showing its getting power now, and it is correct voltage and watt, and I don't have any other notebook that would take the block:roll:

I can't see a pin damaged, and no reason for it to be damaged
#4
would it do any damage if I try another power cord?

I had that problem but mine was described wrong on the listing therefore didn't work for me! So i returned it!
Has it worked before or have you only just bought it?

A lot of these generic chargers sold on eBay are very cheap Chinese stock with a high fail rate. I had a mobile phone charger that worked for a day and then failed. Contacted the eBay powerseller and s/he me a replacement immediately, no questions asked. Try that?

the chargers on ebay are rubbish. I bought one for my mobile phone it was hit nd miss whether it worked and then it got so hot it started to melt......:w00t: watch out!!!

thanks forthe information, I can't seem to find any where else apart the net that would sell it

just put the lead in again and it lit up but then turned back of

You may want to look at the amp rating on the chargers, if it is too low on the block and higher on the laptop it may cause the charger to cut out (safety measure?) assuming your not swapping the leads as well, (blown fuse?), perhaps it is becuse the battery on the hp is now full? hence cutting out the charge

how do I find out the mp of the laptop? I haven't swapped any leads, battery isn't fully charged as won't turn

Output 19volt 3.5 amp or 3.5amp (MAX)

I'm not being pathetic. It doesn't cost much to use slightly better grammar.

plus if your laptop is under warranty you can get the original charger replaced.

think you may be right there but prepare yourself, there are several internal faults that can cause these symptoms as well, this is the very reason i advise people against buying laptops unless they absolutely must have them, soz

ps you did try cleaning the laptop+battery contacts with a tissue and meths/surgical spirit?

You don't know how to clean anything????, not sure i would admit that on a forum with 100,000 members lol
Actually u take the battery out and you will see some small metal contacts, these will have matching contacts on the laptop as well , get some spirits and tissue and clean, use a cotton bud if they are sunk in.
Wait one min after for spirits to evaporate and try again ;)
