Evening everyone.Well the problem is we run 2 laptops off the same router. This has not been a problem until a few days ago when 1 of the laptops would shut down saying updating, restarts and then says:internet explorer cannot be displayed.OH did a system re store and it would work but today this has not worked. Its connected to the internet but its still saying internet explorer cannot be displayed.Has anyone got any ideas as what we can do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance.

tried disabling your wireless connection or ethernet port and then re-enabling it to see if that works?
also have you tried an ethernet cable direct into the router if it does the same seems like from what you said that windows got an update that didnt install properly and may need uninstalling and installing again

well if you use xp click start, control panel then add remove programs when list comes up at the top there is a box that says show updates i would use the date installed as a guide and start with the earliest but cant be 100% sure how an update will effect your pc stability would probs be best to make a back up first to be safe but i think you should be ok .

Internet explorer

My wireless on laptop isn't working after update, It's a conspiracy I tells ya!

ie=internet explorer :)

I haven't used ie for a long time now so unable to suggest a proper solution, but one thing you could do is another system restore in 'safe mode' (try the above solutions aswell).

I take it you definitely have a broadband connection - best to double check that.

it should be asking you to do it in the notifications in the bottom right of your screen it has step by step instructions if its not down there it has been done allready and i can only suggest goggle as i never make backups id reinstall every 2-3 months anyway you should still be able to find the updates the same sort of way on windows 7 havnt got it installed at the moment so maybe someone else could help you with the location

delete the latest update and then try it to see if the problem is still happening

My hunch is saying it's a connection problem rather than ie itself, as nightstud said - connect direct with an ethernet cable (unplug the cable that connects your PC to router and plug it into the laptop)

friendly advice- Your PC really shouldn't be slow unless its a really old one or you have tons of garbage on it or theres a virus etc etc :) I think you should seriously consider re-installing it rather than trying to clean it as it is.

I have my updates disabled and every now an then I will install some of them manually.

i was just going to say that something about that
as it seems like this is whats happened:
pc turned off ,update installed
turned on no internet, system restore done internet working (ussume update was removed)
update re-downloaded in the background ,pc turned off update installed,pc turned on no internet
you could turn of updates or click start, control panel, security centre then find the option for how windows installs/notify's me about updates, then there should be three options choose let windows download updates automaticly but let me decide whever to install them.
when it next pops up in the notification area about updates do custom install and select not to install the update that way you only lose one update not all.

terrapins2 to back up the data you need to do the following :

Click Start - ALL Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Windows Easy Transfer

Then following the screen contents. :)

RE IE (Internet Explorer) not connecting - Click start - control panel - Internet options - advance - then click reset

then try it again.

If that does not work - restart the laptop - whilst rebooting press F8 every couple of seconds until you get a black screen and then scroll down to start in safe networking mode (not sure of the exact wording) once at windows try IE again. In this mode you are only starting with basic components loaded.

Let us know how you get one.

yes thats what i tried to explain before (ask before updating) when it does ask you if you want to install the update there should be an option that says dont remind me about this update again so look carefull if you do ever need the update when checking for updates there will be an option for "show hidden updates" if you needed it so you will find it there.
