Laptop damaged claim on Insurance or not????

Hi, had a genuine accident the other day with granddaughter spilling orange squash on my laptop, nearly all the keys are stuck and do not work and so is the mouse, anyway, the next morning I could not boot up so my daughter suggested I ring my Insurance to make a claim. I have informed them and paid the £50 excess to the company that are due to collect the laptop tomorrow and inspect it. I have just turned it on again and can now boot up although the keys are mouse still do not work. Question is should I cancel the claim get my £50 back and get the keyboard fixed myself as I am going to lose all my no claims bonus with this claim ? If I thought they would replace the laptop then I wouldn't have any probs in continuing but not sure now what to do - the laptop is nearly 4 yrs old? Any suggestions would be a great help thanks??

I dropped my laptop once and the screen was all broken and the insurance company asked a company to look at it who said it wasnt worth repairing so i got the money to buy a new one. I personally would let the insurance company deal with it as if you cancel the claim and it turns out there is something more wrong with it it might end up costing you more and you wont be able to claim again once its been cancelled. Claiming for my laptop didnt change my premiums any either for some reason

they will replace it probably. no telling what unseen damage is lurking under the keyboard. And the actual cost for a replacing a keyboard etc on an old laptop just wont be worth it to them i bet.

thanks for the advice, yes I think it's best if I carry on - I will lose my NCB but will look around at renewal for the cheapest deal - cheers

stood on my daughters lappo but insuance company said i wasn't covered for accidents ?? so I said i do it on purpose. Do ya know wot they said.... sorry but ur not covered for that either. I changed my insurance company after that.. but it might be worth a call. Lots of policies do cover then.

Definetly take a replacement!

The fact you've got it turned on is a bonus the now!

Get yourself a usb drive and backup all your photos and stuff off the laptop while you still have it, or delete personal stuff you dont want them to see. Family photos etc.

Happened to my o/h. My son knocked a pint jug full of orange into his laptop when i was about a week old. He disconnected it all turned it upside down and left it a few weeks, works perfect other than keys are a little sticky but no problems and we are two years or more down the line now.

Most insurance companies won't even bother collecting the old unit - my niece had a spillage accident with hers - they replaced it new for old, and left her with the frazzled old lappy...my bro-in-law took it to bits and used all the good parts for spare...

Have you got pet insurance at all ? Accidents are covered if you say your pet split the drink, and you'd save your NCB on your house insurance :)

Not worth claiming on house insurance tbh (unless your TV & wooden floor was also damaged........)

Is this an insurance policy you took out on the laptop or on your HOME insurance ??

If you home insurance, how many NCD do you have ?

How much is the laptop worth to replace with a simlair spec?

it's my home insurance, I have got 3 yrs ncd - but they have told me I will now go down to ZERO at renewal - which is not until August - I have just been online to get quotes qith 0 NCD and there isn't any difference or infact less than what I am paid previously. So I am definately going to go ahead with the claim - worth around £400 to replace.
