Hi, my 17 yr old son has been saving for a laptop as due to his illness he finds it hard to sit at a pc for even short periods of time, with a laptop he can rest in bed and still use it, he has managed to save £450 and I spotted this laptop on Play,
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/653/860/-/13028493/Acer-Aspire-7530G-754G32BN-Turion-X2-RM-75-2-2GHz-4GB-320GB-Blu-ray-Combo-17-3-Vista-Home-Premium-Laptop-Notebook/Product.html?searchtype=genre&P36=KNRFF3

i am not very tech minded and was wondering if this was a good option/deal for what he requires, his use for it mainly would be msn, emails, internet use and playing total war games offline and a runescape online.

Thanks in advance for any input

Looks nice, but I would go for a dell at the moment, very good specs for the price.

I have a dell and the battery rubbish and has just died after two years, the fan went, keys have come off, i have had numerous problems lol. So if you do go for a dell get the extended warranty. Acers tend to be reliable.

i dont know if the samsung one from argos will run the games you want, but it comes with a 3 yr warranty, maybe worth a look for £399

Afraid your find more people who dislike Acer then Dell though.
And personally I am looking for a laptop in a week or two and I am thinking Dell as their Value for money seems to get you a good chunk. However, that Acer is a pretty good spec for what it is, I'd read some reviews (just google Acer Aspire 7530G reviews) and look on the dell site.

If you want 17inch laptops similar to the Acer look at the:
Dell Inspiron 17
Dell Studio 17

The latter is the more expensive model, but obviously is reflected in the speed of the machine,.

One thing I will say, Samsung laptops are awesome. Very good quality.

Nice laptop but I would be put off by buying it from play as they only have a 28 warranty. The remaining 11 months is with Acer directly and they're not the best at customer service imho.

The Dell Studio models are also built to a much better quality and spec than the Inspiron.

Dell Inspiron are the "entry level" models, Dell Studio are moving more towards the "quality" market.

I saw a Studio in PC World recently and have to say it looked really nice (sexy even).

I've not seen them in the flesh which I want to do before purchasing. But I have been looking at the Inspiron 17 i3 + 4gb + 500gb + 1GB 5450 for £529.
Although the Studio 17 i5 + 4gb + 1tb + 1GB 5650 for £626.
But again its an extra £100.

I have found this web site a good summary of all the Dell deals (it is regularly updated)

http://www.dmxdimension.com/dell-uk/inspiron-17-deals-codes-coupons/

Use the drop downs at the top to change from Inspiron 17 to Inspiron 15, Studio 15 etc.

Not to drop a spanner, but laptops are not the most ergonomic work stations. I would only use one if I wanted to work in different places, not for comfort.
A well set up desktop with wireless mouse/keyboard and wall mounted monitor can be very flexible.
You would then get higher spec for the price.
However being 17 probably got his heart set on laptop so maybe a wireless keyboard and mouse setup would be good to get with it.

Trouble with the Samsung from Argos is they dont seem to have any more stock anywhere in the country. Dont know why they dont pull it off the website tbh :-/

What did you go for then if you've order one?
If not then you might wish to consider:

Not a great graphics card but enough for some older/light gaming. Otherwise the laptop is actually very good value for money.

I've decided to put the extra money in and go for the Dell Studio 17 and get the extra warranty which is on special offer at the mo too, think it will suit him and should last him a couple of years, it will also run the Total War games well that he plays when he is well enough, and with me being a complete idiot when it comes to tech stuff the extra warranty seemed a good idea, hope I've made the right choice:thumbsup:
