I think you might be better looking at some other type of hardware/media to do the same job if indeed you only want to store pics on it.
Lugging a laptop about when you only need to take something that will fit in your pocket doesn't make sense to me ?

What type of camera do you have and what memory card does it use ?

just visit an internet cafe. far cheaper and more convenient.

Strangely enough I'm pretty sure they are not that commonplace in Florida. My partner had problems finding one that she was happy using.
Hotels sometimes provide intenet access but it can be expensive.
I think there are facilites in Disney but notsure on the cost.

I still think something like an Archos or similar would be the ideal ?

i owuld like to use msn/myspace and email while in florida and the room im staying has internet with a ethernet cable i just thought a laptop would be the best option. if not what would you reccomend?

Get a couple of 2GB memory cards (thats enough for around 1000-1500 photos). Doubt the internet facility in the hotel would allow 4gig to be uploaded.

whats the best way to use msn/myspace and things do them sidekick things do that? i dont no much since i have always just used a desktop

If you are going to be staying for a year in one place, then personally I think a laptop would be a better idea, if you are liable to be e-mailing/instant messengering a lot, as they are more comfortable to use.

Have you thought about buying the laptop once you get there, that way you won't have to carry it one way and it will probably be cheaper? You will need to make sure you take any software you need with you though, if you are used to using certain programs, etc.

Another alternative is the Asus Eee PC. This is much smaller and lighter than a laptop but has almost the same functionality. You can either use it with Linux, or install Windows XP on it. You could then always get an external hard drive or flash drives to store your photos (depending on what sort of size your photos take up).

What sort of price are you looking to pay?

really maybe upto about £200 max, i thought about looking out there and i might do that but i had a quick look and prices seemed to be about the same though i did not look well. i can get a couple of gig storage on the camera and it should be enough i would just like to upload them so my family can see while i am there.

hmmmm..to be honest you're going to be hard pressed to get a new laptop for that sort of price. :-/ There are companies like Morgan Computers that sell old and reconditioned laptops, but I lost my bookmakrs recently so can't remember the names of the different ones. Hopefully someone else can suggest a few.

The Asus EEE PC I mentioned goes for about £220 IIRC, although that's without XP. You should be able to use the installed Linux to do what you want though.
