It keeps dropping the connection, when it happens the livebox is not flashing to say its updating, or not connected. When it happens and i go into connections my internet connections is not there, but…

It keeps dropping the connection, when it happens the livebox is not flashing to say its updating, or not connected. When it happens and i go into connections my internet connections is not there, but my neighbours are, its doing it quite often now and driving me nuts. Updated drivers last night, but after kept getting a pop up saying some file wasnt found when i restarted so had to restore to earlier date. If it was drivers surely it wouldnt show any connections available

Only a thought, but maybe it would be an idea to check and see what channel your neighbours are on for wireless. If it's the same, it's a good idea to change yours.

there is 6 of us, 2 are on channel 1 (including me) 3 are on channel 6 and 1 on channel 11

how would i change channel?

On the router the channel must be set to automatic at the moment for everyone to be getting different channels, set the router and everyone to the same channel number, also set the router to static addressing and set everyone with their own IP address.

when i say 6 of us, i mean 6 different houses, not 6 connrctions within my home

would still fix the channel to something like say 7,
then set your ip addressing to static and turn dhcp server off, used to get all sorts of problems using dhcp on my o2 box, running static now and have had no problems since.

When you lose connection have you tried plugging your laptop into the livebox to see if you can cannect that way ?.

no, its usually only off for secs/minutes, so dont really havie chance, bnut have managed to check livebox lights and nothing going on there, and also know it disappears from internet connections, its been doing it for the last 3 to 4 days, but strangley enough just remembered receiving an email off orange about a new upgraded speed of up to 5.5 meg now, nothings changed with speed though, but wondering if thats anything to do with it, but surely my livebox will show a dropped connection if its a connection problem with orange, the lights remain normal. And device manager shows no errors on wireless card, even when it drops the connection

i thinks its best if i contact orange, i hate doing this as its a nightmare, but i really dont have a clue about it all

The problem with that is that Orange probably will say it's an issue with your laptop's wireless adaptor and not their router.

Try connecting network cable to the router directly and see if it still kicks you off.

after hunting for hours, found the ethernet, so on that now and see how it goes :thumbsup:

check the power management on your wifi card in your PC and also check the power management on the Pci-e slot it is plugged into

make sure your wireless lan switch is set correctly and not reset to 2.4 and 5 ghz by accident as it will cause conflicts and will go off intermittently

make sure only 1 is selected

power management checked, i have unchecked allow computer to turn this device off to save power, dont know what the bold bit means :oops:

was on ethernet last night, and it never dropped, baqck on wirelss today and its dropping again, have updated the drivers and still happening

you need to choose from either channel 1,6, or 11 and then survey what networks you can see then choose the weakest signal overlap as your channel.

i,e if channel 11 can be seen but albeit very weak choose 11, you do not want to choose the same channel as a neighbour who is very close by this will cause alot of interference and threshold violations, which is probably what you are experiencing now.

Wireless is too tempramental, I never bother with it, I get a solid enough connection but it's not worth the speed drop. Anyway change the wireless channel, it could be anything causing it, might drop everytime a neighbour answers their cordless phone. It's trial and error, nothing Orange can really do.


only because its not set-up correctly across neighbouring houses.

dont know what laptop you have but i have a lan wireless utility program which helps me configure which frequency to use and also to enable my bluetooth

sounds like ur are getting conflictions on your system either with other things in your house or neighbor hood on the same frequency

alfonse that is brill, but i dont know how to find where i do this, as said earlier there are on Channel 1 (including me, other two are weak signals)
2 on channel 6, both weak signals and one on channel 11, weak signal

why dont you to have a look at your internet providers site help forum or laptop manufacturer as there will no doubt be other people with the same problem listed several times with easy to follow instructions how to resolve......some internet proidors have an online help service and will log into ur computer and help if you cant do it

that would be my advice and is my point of call if i ever have problems i cant solve

i have googled till my fingers are dropping off, cant find anything about this, can find about weak signals, but mine when on is excellant

Northing to do with the laptop, you need to do it on the router, and you don't use software, you have to login to the router.


i am well aware of what to do mate but she cant do it

dell live support will help her sort it out, thats what they do

Do you have Norton anti-virus installed? if you do, un-install it, this may be the cause, as it was with my friends laptop who couldnt connect to the internet

i do not have norton, dell will tell me its an roange problme, and orange will no doubt tell me i havent got a wireless adaptor in laptop, like they did last time, hence why im trying to find out the problme myself, nothing in house has changed and been using it for years

i do not have norton, dell will tell me its an roange problme, and orange will no doubt tell me i havent got a wireless adaptor in laptop, like they did last time, hence why im trying to find out the problme myself, nothing in house has changed and been using it for years


if orange livebox have said that then you obviously havnt "paired" your adapter with your router, get back in touch and ask them again i cant believe they have just dismissed it........you should of been told how to pair your devices and tried again

they can log into your computer remotely and will have all the info they need from the laptop or from you when you give them it to help get it sorted:roll:

I'm not at all, I'm just trying to help, if she knows the IP and UN and Pass, then changing channel is normally just a drop down box.


lol all she needs to do is contact dell or orangebox live support......that is what they are there for

not contacting either because of presumptions that they are gonna pass the book or a bad experience with 1 member of staff is hardly a basis for boycotting the service you are entitled to:)

yeah this is where it can be tricky, Noise or Signal to Noise Ratio SNR, is interference from other outside factors, like mirrors/reflective surfaces causing multi path distortion, microwave ovens, etc

how do you connect to a laptop that isn't on the network properly? :roll:

leave this to those that know.

And Orange IT Support is pretty rubbish based on many phones calls to them for friends and family

if orange cant sort there own problems out then you are entitled t ask for a new box to be sent out......simple as that

All she has to do is log into the router and change the channel, waste of time calling Dell or Orange for a 1 minute job.

the laptop has been connected to this livebox for a few years, its still going strong but is now dropping the connection for a few minutes at a time, the livebox is not showing signs of proble,s, neither is the wireless card, hence why i havent spent an hour on a phone call to orange, past experience with them is terrible when i have needed help, neither have i contacted dell as it isnt a dell problem, all i need to know now is how to get into livebox to change channel, im trying to elimainate problem before spending hours on the phone
