I need some better memory for my sons laptop - it only has 256 MB so am after 512 or 1gb.

I beleieve it needs:

DDR2 PC5300 200 pin SODIMM.

Laptop is Medion MIM2220 Notebook.

Anyone knows the best place? Can get for around £11 for 1GB but money is tight so if there are any cheaper options!!

pc4200 will work too. i doubt the processor in the laptop will use pc5300 fully.

I'd also vote for Crucial (had a couple of dud sticks eleswhere but crucial has always worked for me) - but I've also used the Kingston Valueram from Play with no problems.

I don't think you'll get much cheaper the £11 for 1Gb - the prices for PC5300 and 4200 seem similar. I'd be tempted to match the speed of your existing ram if you plan to keep that.

If money is really tight then the 512mb at £7.99 from Play or £8.21 (PC4200) from crucial will still electrify your laptops performance compared to the 256mb it has!

If you go to the Crucial site using your son's laptop they have an online memory checker - it has to install an activex control and it will then report exactly what you existing memory is.

P.S. You can mix memory speeds - everything will run at the slowest speed. Tripling (or more) the size existing memory will be what makes the the most diffference. I wouldn't get hung up over the speed; as Shanecr said your CPU may not even be able to use PC5300 to it's fullest.

I've tried the Crucial scanner app and after I have installed, and run it boots up a new window that says "Scan in Progress..........please wait. Your system scanner reoprt will be displayed shortly" but nothing happens - have left it 10 mins!!

Maybe it doesn't like Vista??

Ok thanks for the advice. I know alot of people don't like AOL but I've been with em for 9 years and all has been well.

i have heard a bit abit firefox but really don't want to "complicate" things! I think I'll just get the memory from Crucial as it appears to come with good comments!

Cheers:thumbsup:
