Laptop is a Tosh Satellite running XP Home SP3, ports were working fine previously but went through a couple of broadband adaptors - initially has a card slot one but it got knocked in and damaged slot so then got a cheap usb one but kids knocked that so decided to go for a plug in one. My cd drive doesnt work on laptop - have yet to take it apart to see whats causing prob so when I plugged in the modem XP didnt recognise it and I had to get the driver from the web. then a few days later decided to copy files off my mobile to the pc which involves reading the memory card. None of my memory card readers were recognised, then tried my bluetooth device which I have also used in past and its not recognised by XP either!

The broadband adaptor is a edimax nlite - my bt hub is only setup for max of G network....could my adaptor be causing this prob, or perhaps some update I have taken from microsoft or a driver? Thought of trying to uninstall or try to rollback driver on usb hubs or controllers? Anyone any ideas or will I just have to fix the cd drive so I can load up an xp or tosh cd to see if I can fix it. Hardware info showing all devices are working properly.

Thanks for any advice!

Have you tried taking the broadband adaptor out to see if the problems still exist?

Try a refresh in device manager to see if anything else shows up as well.

lol..okay, no probs. I buy my glasses from GlassesDirect.co.uk, far cheaper than the high street opticians and also get my contact lenses online as well from ASDA opticians, again cheaper. Hang in there, everything will work out and be okay! :)

Tried removing the edimax broadband adaptor but still no joy, Then tried restoring till before I installed the edimax but still not working. My next plan was to restore to before the PC slot got broken but could only go back a month...its still not finding drivers which are bundled in with XP for card readers and external drives...anyone got a scooby? Or know where I can get a driver SDDR-113 (SanDisk Micromate) so I can read memory cards from camera and mobile phone! Or where Ican but an external PC Card slot? Its a Tosh Satellite I have....

Plug the edimax nlite into each USB port and then go into Device Manager and uninstall it. Once uninstalled, remove the edimax nlite so it doesn't re-install it onto that port. Do this on every USB port that is having trouble (plug in, uninstall, remove, plug in, uninstall, remove).

Once finished, try using the 'fixed' ports.

Okay will try that - think i should uninstall the Bluetooth adaptor - thats the only other thing i have managed to successfully install after the edimax - blinking annoying if it is as its a good adaptor otherwise but guess that means an easier fix than if its to do with the pcmcia slot getting busted!

PS thanks!
