Mate has a laptop.

When he fires it up it come sup with an error message along the lines of

"could not load DDL" Also mentions operating system somewhere.

I have tried going through safe mode etc

When i put his reboot disk in it comes up with an error and goesthrough every file say could not load.

Is it retired?

reinstalling the OS should solve the problem

if not, a clean install is needed
#2
How would i do that?
#3
just checked with hubby (he works in IT), he said did you mean DLL? if so then he agrees with nuabdi you'll need to do a clean install

boot from the restore/windows CD

keep an eye on the boot sequence as you may have to press any key to boot from the CD

if it doesn't boot from CD check the settings in BIOS
#6
Ok thanks - Although we did try using his backp cd which failed?
#7
You may need to set the initial boot device to CD/DVD rom first in order for the laptop to boot up and do a clean install.

Ahhh not good!

Repair cost?
#10
Try boot and nuke then reinstalling the operating system, failing that repair is the only option.

you need to know what type of hard drive it is either IDE or SATA

just an example a 320gb is £50 which is a good price

not just yet... Like the above replies, I suspect you failed to reinstall OS using the backup disk cos you've set the laptop to boot from HDD 1st. Check your BIOS, see the boot sequence, change it to CD first then HDD

I have exeperienced this ".dll failed to load" problem so many times and i was always able to fix it. Its OS problem, not HDD problem.

The worst thing you may have to do is a clean install which means you need to reformat the disk first before installing the OS...

i wish i'm close to help
