Laptop Shopping - it's been a while!

In the market for a 15-17" core i5/i7 laptop - preferably with a decent discrete graphics card.

I've been hitting the dell outlet and sony vaio clearance site to no avail and can't honestly remember where else I need to be checking in order to bag a good deal.

Has anyone received a bargain recently from any particular sites? Can you point me at the retailers I need to be keeping a watchful eye over?

Thanks v much in advance for any feedback.

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned by budget to give this thread some context. I'm not looking at spending more than £450.

Haven't seen many good deals recently and the Dell outlet units aren't really doing anything for me. Was tempted by the Medion with 5470 ATI card on here but really need to be grabbing something with a very capable CPU because one of the main things I'll be doing is running virtual machines.

Nope. Some of the older i7s are available pretty cheaply = check the Dell site. Shame they're left paired with Radeon 4xxx chips.

Nowhere did I say I wanted a top end i7 with a SLI configured GPU setup, 8GB of RAM and RAID setup.

If you look around and are patient you can get close to what I'm after, of that I'm sure. However if you're impatient and daft with where you look then yeah, you're going to end up with a mid-range Core2 based machine and a lovely Intel X4500 GPU.

I was eyeing up that z series but I dont think I can justify 850 quid on a laptop lol

they had a dedicated graphics one, 8gb ram, 2.8ghz processor for like 450 at one point, my dad even rang up to check stock but there site was in melt down, as he's in the market atm the things i do is just check techfurb (ebay clearance) argos (ebay clearance) and the sony clearance site every day, i dont really bother with the dell outlet as i find it difficult to navigate and me dads particularly after a sony, dont wanna publicise any deals too much though when they rock out as theyll all get snapped up and i might not get one, selfish i know! but ill let you know in here if i see anything..

im not really too clued up about comps though i just look for bigger numbers next to stuff generally and pressume more power!

o btw i just checked the sony website there and a load of decent E series refurbs seem to have cropped up and allready been cleared out of stock today... so thats another one missed

Yep I just missed out on one of those E series a couple of days ago. Hammering refresh and I'm sure something will come up in a week or two!

Joe - most of the laptops got cleared out of the sony shop the other day. Only 2 series were left. Now there are 4 which suggests there have been yet another glut of lappies we have missed!
