Im sooo peved of just had me laptop fixed and now the USB ports have broken :( this means i cant get on the internet on it, i asked the woman is it possiable to get them replaced and she said no u will have to buy a whole new laptop!

So i just want to check with you guys is it possiable to get them fixed or buy some new ones for it or am i going to have to fork out £300 for a new laptop, which i only use form a bit of word processing and internet.

EDIT: The laptop is just over 2 years ol, when i say broken i mean two of them are completely dead, they dont work at all, they wont recognise anything which is put into them. The other one say to everything i have put into it has either mulfunctioned or doesnt recognie it. The last ones is very tempermently in will work for 10mins but then doesnt and keeps on doing this so for then internet it cant be used :(. All of them are very loose and move around. Il try and find the laptop model now, i can tell you though it aint a very expensive and is a esystem one though.

thanks, x

not sure about replacing the usb ports but if you did need to buy something new you could always just get a notebook, some are under £200.

usb drivers may be ******ed?

did all the usb ports fail at once?

I'm making the assumption that you connect to the internet over USB based on your post.

Do you have ethernet (RJ45) connector on the laptop? If so, you could just buy a new modem for £10-20.

The e-system laptops I've seen all have PCMCIA slots but are covered with a blanking plate. If you have the exact model then maybe we can help you a bit more.

usb drivers may be ******ed?

I HOPE THIS IS TRUE AS ITS AN EASY FIX:)

question is what exactly do you use the usb for as their are alternatives methods for most things ie ethernet/wireless for access to a router which some can then have printers attached such as the bt home hub.
Post the model number off the sticker on the bottom of it.

"Im sooo peved of just had me laptop fixed and now the USB ports have broken"

Hmm sounds familiar. I remember doing a similar thing for a friend. I re-installed his Windows, updated it and then we he got it back home, all his USB devices failed to work. It turned out to be a dodgy Windows update. You should take it back to whomever fixed it for you with a couple of USB devices and say they are not working, and they should be able to fix it.

It is a driver/windows update related issue. It should be easily fixed by a techy. Of course, this may not be the issue but it sounds so familiar I had to post my thoughts.

Good luck!

i didnt think of that !

on your desktop go to MY COMPUTER and right click on it then select PROPERTIES, then select the HARDWARE tab at the top of the little window. and then in that selection click DEVICE MANAGER, if there are any yellow question marks next to anything write it down and let us know.

and about the soldering think you need to take it appart and "wiggle" the actual port to see if it is loose but thats the "extreme last appempt" at trying to fix it:thumbsup:

if your anywhere in lancashire you could always come round i would take a look for a fellow HUKD'er (for free as its xmas) :santa: :gift: :stocking:
