Laptop with dvd drive for less than £300?

Hi guys,
Son turns 13 in 2 weeks, time for his own laptop, he only really goes on habbo and youtube, maybe facebook, he has an mp3 so would be good if he can store music and would obviously use it for homework too.
I've been checking on here for weeks but to be honest it all confuses me, I want to spend as little as pos, any ideas welcome :-)

If that's all It's used for then just get a cheap one, what's your budget?
#2
i bought mine a laptop and she now wants a netbook so she can take it her friends
#3
below £300 I would think!
#4
Stupid question alert! Does this only play bluray?
#5
haha no it doesn't, you will be fine with dvd and cd's too.
#6
Ok, reserved one. In the meantime can anyone get any cheaper? Can you get any netbooks with dvd players?

Have a look at these Toshiba laptops http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?pp=20&s=Price%3A+Low+-+High&storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002701&langId=-1&q=TOSHIBA+LAPTOP

They are heavily reduced but stock is thin on the ground, all the 15.6" ones should have dvd drives.

Netbooks generally dont come with a CD/DVD player, though you can buy external DVD players that plug into the netbook.

OP you would be far better of getting the kid a netbook. If he's not interested in playing any Discs on the Netbook then it would be best & much much cheaper.have a look at this one

He would play discs, would be handy when he stays at my mums or go caravanning, don't want the hassle of carrying and connecting a dvd drive

Op this is not a bad deal or you can go from triple core to dual core & have Blu-ray from link below

But with clubcard points and quidco the Dell works out £40+ cheaper, and I'm skint!

Dell have three major problems

1. Build quality. The hinges always break
2. Power Supply, the power supply WILL break
3. Batteries, the batteries are useless and will soon need replacing.

1 is the most important thing here, especially for a young boy, who may not be the gentlest user. Best to spend a bit more on something that will last.

****, I have a dell latitude - best build quality ive come across, power supply seems perfect never had problems with my previous dells too. Battery life = 5 hours.

OP if your after a solid laptop go for a second hand dell latitude you wont be disappointed, parts are cheaply available dell even offer a guide on how to take apart the laptop.

Only downside is most latitudes dont have webcams.

Also remember quidco is never guaranteed! Plus processor sucks.
