Laser Eye Correction Treatment

I am going for a consultation soon, and as you can imagine a little nervous about it all. Have you had this done? What questions did you have that received a satisfactory answer from the consultant? Also, did you have to pay considerably more than the "from" price in adverts?

Thanks in advance.

My friend was quoted £350 for each eye, she ended up paying £1100 for just one eye.

Her vision is worse after the treatment.

It is the extended costs that bother me the most, mind you I'd just walk out if they started piling it on:)

There are some sad accounts of things going wrong, but they are very rare so not worrying about that.

Hi Predikuesi, I was looking into this too, but unfortunatley found out I'm not suitable

Just in case you dont know Tesco are now doing clubcard deals with Optimax, which could greatly reduce the price for you if you have some vouchers about http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=584

Here's a couple of threads from another member who has now had the surgery done

well there are different types of laser surgery, and costs can depend on your prescription. There is a good cost cutting guide here, and an active forum post here at mse where people discuss what they had with prices etc.

i had it done 3 years ago as did my twin sister and we both think it was one of the best things we have ever done... at the consultation they did try to 'recommend' certain things which they said would improve the outcome but just said no thanks will stick to the basics ended up paying about £900 for both eyes and have perfect vision

What eye prescription did you guys have before the treatment?

I had laser eye surgery 7 years ago at Optimax. I went in thinking I would go for LASIK surgery because in my head I thought if I pay more its got to be better. When I went in for the consultation they recommended I had PRK, which they had been doing for a lot longer and had done lots of research on. It turned out that PRK was considerably cheaper and I only paid £990 for both eyes. After 7 years, I still think getting this done was the best thing I've ever done - best of luck to you.

Here's another useful thread, although I subbed it 'cos it was Northern Ireland specific - http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=422334

Had it done about 4 years ago - worth every penny, although it cost me more than £350 per eye.

Had no worries about the procedure, as I read up on a few forums about the procedure first. I didn't have any questions to ask the consultant.

Don't believe the adverts when they say you could be back at work the next day - plan to take a week off to recover. You'll need at least the next day off, and the more rest you can get the better.

Your sight will be very good immediately after the op, but will then deteriorate within an hour or so - it was like looking through heavy net curtains. Don't worry, though, your sight then improves. The only problem to watch out for is light sensitivity - it took me a couple of days to get over it. (walking round the house wearing sunglasses lol!)

Thanks everyone. Forgive the pun - I'll be looking into it a little bit further :)

They are a bit cheeky with the adverts - this prie would be if you went for the technology that isnt as good as the one NASA uses and also if you eye sight isnt that bad. My boyfriend has just had them done - was -3.75 in both eyes, went for the best technology available and cost him £1800
However he says that its the kind of thing you cant really put a price on as it has made such a difference to his life
