Laser Eye Surgery Advice Please

firswood Avatar

I have been thinking of having laser surgery but have always been put off until now. However yesterday I went to a free consultation with Optical Express and have been quoted the following:

Lasik £1090 - both eyes inc. aftercare
Wavefront Lasik £1690 - both eyes inc. aftercare

From what I have read from this board this seems a decent price. What do those who have looked into this think?

I had considered having the surgery aboad but the obvious concern is the aftercare.

Also I am at a dilema as to which of the 2 options to take. Anybody have any knowledge about this?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Theres an ad on TV were they do £398 per Eye....can't remember the ad

But beleive me made it hurts after...alot you have blood shot eyes for over 7 weeks+ and your going to be more prone to infections, so if you go ahead ask for antibiotics

Theres a huge thread on here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=190799&highlight=lazer+eye
There seems to be a coupon going around where you can get it half price.
The £398 per eye is just to get you in there as no one is suitable for that one.

I paid £395 an eye in January with Optical Express for the standard Lasik treament and couldn't be happier with the results.

The recovery time with this treatment is 24 hours but I was fine after a couple of hours. Had no pain at all, just some grittiness, but I was fine after a couple of hours sleep.

Have it done, you won't regret it!

I had it done 16 years ago and still have perfect vision. It was PRK then and cost me £400 an eye. I had pain for a dayish. Highly recommended

the pain lasts for a day roughly

Try again near Christmas as they are really quiet then and sometimes do deals via Ebay!

You lot must have bigger balls than me. Could never go through with it. Can't stand anything to do with surgery on the eyes! Eyes are not to be messed with!

lol :)

Serious tho OP, its worth shopping around as the prices do vary a lot. Just remember tho is not always about getting it done from the cheapest place, as you mentioned the aftercare etc.
My brother had his done about 10 years ago and his was about £1000 for both eyes.
Good luck

Just came back in and didn't expect so many replies!!

From what has been put down there doesn't seem to be much difference in the end result just the level of pain and recovery just aftr surgery ... still tempted to go for the extra £600 (after all it hopefully will last for quite some time).

Other things I did pick up at the consultation were:
- there is a 10% discount for Local Authority staff (probably NHS and police too)
- do ask about discounts as I was offered £300 off
- the aftercare does seem to be excellent and they did say that if there was more surgery needed for some reason it would be free

(wish I hadn't watched the Youtube videos though!!)

Will be having it done in October. Thanks again

Oops I had been reading Martin Lewis web site about having eyes lasered and no one seems to have had the £400 treatment .
I would love to have mine done but would be frightened it would go wrong.
Good luck with yours and come back and tell us your writing your reply with out glasses.

As with any procedure there is a risk and it doesn't always result in an improvement in eyesight....and in a small number of cases worse eyesight.
