I have always wondered this, glad someone has asked this lol

orange circle is rep from someone who has positive reputation themselves.

Grey square rep is from someone who doesn't have rep yet

Thanks.... I'm gonna rep you for being so helpful and because you've got a nice orange circle...:)

Very good post by the ever helpful Emma here:

emmajk42,

What the different coloured boxes mean:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/reputation/reputation_pos.gifOrange lights in your rep mean that you have received positive reputation from someone with a positive reputation score. This will have increased your points.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/reputation/reputation_balance.gifGrey lights are also positive rep, but have been given by someone with no reputation, and therefore does not have the ability to affect your reputation score. This will have had no effect on your points.

will the grey ever turn orange or are they kinda pointless?
1 Like #6
Yep, they are just users that signed up a long time ago (back when you started with no rep), but as soon as they get some rep that isn't from another "grey" user their rep will go orange, and they will give orange rep

Hope that makes sense :)

I am not sure but I think one of mine turned orange, but I still have two grey ones (this was before I started reading emmajks links....very, very useful...it was commented (by me) that they should be added once those that gave you rep got rep themselves.

typed all that and simplygifted gives a far superior answer, thank you sir...rep to you

I was expecting a thread about the last comment you received.

My last was :
Charlie (12)
I'm going to find you, inflict severe pain on you, inflict servere pain on your neighbours and rape your illegally imported donkey!

What concerns me, is the fact he knows about Pablo.

It doesn't affect your points total though. (Or does it?)

Not sure that I understand the question, but here goes - If a "grey" user gives you rep I don't *think* it will affect your points, not sure though. Anyway, if I see a "grey" member I generally rep them, as its not fair on them that everyone that joined since them is given rep to start off with. If you know what I mean..Just ask again if I'm not making sense

Yes, sorry - I didn't make myself at all clear - not even to me now that I re-read it.
What I was trying to get at was:
Even when the grey blobs (no rep) turn orange (some rep), you don't get any additional rep points, because the only rep that contributes to the total is that held at the time of repping.
I like that idea of giving rep to the grey blobbers. I didn't know that everyone started with rep nowadays. Oh and here's some for you!:)

Is there any way you can see who has left the rep? When I go to my control page it lists which post the rep was left and the comment if any...

Well thats what I was afraid you might ask  Don't know the answer to this one, but I would presume it counts at time of repping only, otherwise all our reps would be constantly increasing. But I really don't know if thats true or not. And yep all new members seem to start with a orange block  but some 2006(I think) members seem to have grey rep as they didn't start with any.

Edit: Sorry, your post makes sense now that I read through the posts before my first one

I really don't know why they make it all so complex  anyway I think I have made sense this time, any more questions I will try my best to answer

No, not unless they leave their name

If you hover over your rep bar, you will see that you have "a spectacular aura about" - but that's not surprising seeing as you have your 'edna clouds'. Great name, BTW.

Cheers, we have clarity:)
I didn't have any rep, only a grey blob, to start off with but felt wanted and loved when some eventually came my way. I'm off to rep a grey-blobber:-D

Clarity of sorts

But if you joined in oct 2007 I'm certain that you must have started with rep, it wouldn't have shown in your "user cp" unless a "grey" member happened to rep you as well..

Anyway, yes rep a grey blobber, level that playing feild

Edit: It took me three edits to write this, I think there must be something wrong with me

I didn't have any rep to start with neither, (I don't think) judging by the rep just rec'd from someone who I shall leave nameless to save their blushes (SG), I need to get rep form those with plenty of rep themselves....so add all mods to buddy list and stalk them like a hunter in a wood full of deer...

Hee hee , but you did start with rep of some sort, you never had a grey block under your avatar, I'll bet it was always orange(green)(even though it didn't show in your control panel), which means that when you leave people rep they will see an orange block, but the people who signed up within a certain period between 2004/5-2006 only had grey blocks, and could only give grey blocks

Now that really was complex, hope you've understood it

So, I've just been to my control panel thinking to give rep to the blue-grey blob people there and .......
The grey blob repper only joined up in Jan 2008. Has an orange blob now without any help from me.
Where does that leave our clarity?
Last one this: I'm mindful of your head starting to spin!:)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, I think that might just have dissproved my theory all together.. I definatley don't get it then, maybe it just shows as orange rep under their avatar even though they can only leave grey rep? So maybe just ignore my last couple of answers(pointing people in the completely wrong direction)..

I have received an infraction by edi for this post but I can't see why.. It says a signiture violation but I really can't see whats wrong.. Is it because I asked the question to start with?? It says somewhere in the reasoning it was about voting cold but I didn't think I could vote in the misc section... I'm soooooooo confused... I did voted a few of his deals cold but I only voted cold because I thought they where cold.. :x

It's beat me.. I must admit I did vote a few of edi's deals today cold because I thought in my honest opinion they where cold. The voting might seem a little different my usual as I have been at home all week and have found myself on here alot. I have always been completely honest whether it has been with a reply or a hot/cold vote. I vote far more hot than cold..This is the only think of but the violation is against this post.. I'm soo confused.. I'm slightly annoyed about this and have contacted HUKD through the contact us page but I don't supose I'll have any joy... I do spend an awful amount on here and thought I was part of a very special community..:x
#33
What was your reason for voting cold?
#34
there is something in the code of conduct about serial cold voting....going off to have a look....back found this...

HUKD has systems in place to detect serial cold voters, and it may lead to a ban from the forums, as it is against the code of conduct.

wonder if that is why?
#35
The reason I voted cold was that in my honest opinion the deal wasn't special. I'm not a serial cold voter.. I vote a lot hot and very few cold.. It's just I spent alot of time on here this week. The violation is linked to this post though.. The violation system is yellow and red card like football.. I got sent off in one go. Can I appeal against this and ask the ref to have a look at the sending off later.. I think I'm going to get back under my stone and be a lurker..

I think you will have to wait until they get back to you, as you aren't making a whole lot of sense.

I understand that you didn't think it was "Special", but could it be purchased cheaper elsewhere, from a better retailer etc.

I vote cold no more than twice a week, so to vote several of 1 persons deals cold in 1 day seems excessive.

Sorry to highlight that statement....not just one deal....but, I feel for you, I am sure it will turn out to be a misunderstanding...I like it on here, first forum I have felt comfortable on, no need to be clever or techy, which suits me down to the ground...and lots of helpful people...a few numpties, but most are great...I don't even come for the deals anymore...so I hope you fet sorted.:)
