Hi, I need some advice here. Last year (24//3/07) I bought an electric lawn rake from B&Q. It just packed in last week, can I go back to B&Q and claim it was not fit for the purpose it was meant for as it lasted just over the year?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers
John

i would think it comes with 1 year warranty , you couls say that you have only got round to using it a few times and see what they say sorry cant be more help x

if all else fails could try writing headquaters quoting the sales of goods act and stating how you feel it isnt fit for the purpose it was designed for and why!

I only used it probaly four times last year and this year I used it in the back garden and when I was doing the front it packed in. A nylon cog which the band attatches to has sheared in half. The motor still runs but can't turn the scarifier. I might pop in tonight or tomorrow morning and see what I can get done about it. Just thought if I could reel off some "Sales of Goods Act" blurb they might be more sympathetic.

It must be out of warranty now so you may have a problem............

But if you haven't used it that often I would take it in and tell them what happened. Ask to speak to the store manager. Doubt they will give a refund, but you might get a new one?

My pressure washer packed in just after 12 months. I took it back to B&Q and they didn't want to know. I rang the manufacturer ( Karcher ) and they paid for the repair. It might have been a known fault, I didn't ask. It could be worth a try, but go to B&Q first.

Try taking it in without the receipt. B&Q are usually quite good at giving a credit note out. Just say you bought it last week but can't find the receipt. They'll probably give you a credit note and you can go buy another one with it.

If that fails, write to the MD at B&Q Head Office - I did ! Try to make your letter a bit different to the thousands of others they receive.

At the time I wrote the MD was Martin Toogood but could have changed. We we're shopping with Christopher in a B&Q trolley & they had a display of reduced priced paints on a table. We were looking at tiles and the paints were behind us. From the trolley, Christopher managed to pick up some gloss paint & pour it all over himself whilst we weren't looking.

Store staff were useless and when I finally found someone who was remotely interested she came over with turps ! for a baby ! i tell ya !!??

Anyway I wrote to Martin Toogood at their head office & put my whole letter in rhyme & sent it from Christopher, aged 2. I made it funny but got the point across that I was less than pleased. - it was quite good even if I do say so myself.

He wrote back (all in rhyme, but not as good as mine.lol) and enclosed a cheque for £200 to replace clothes.

Result i reckon.

You can't lose so I'd go for it!

Hi,

Thought I would update you on outcome. Got a call from B&Q saying to call the service dept as they where gong to send out the part rather that have the scarifier sent to them. Called them and was told they didn't have the CORRECT part.

Went back to the store and the lady that was dealing with it called them again and was told it was a common problem and just speak to the manager and see what he could do. She did and he said just to replace it for the newer model.

The newer model costs £59 and the one I bought last march cost £35, so now I have a new one with another 12 months warranty and I didn't have to pay a penny more.

I am well chuffed.:-D

Also got a call from the Sun today to say i had won 2 tickets to see the Whips in York and I will also get an Xbox 360.

Today has been a good day.:-D:-D:-D

How on earth can a rake be automated, out of interest?

Ahh sorry, had a look, its like a pushy along lawnmower thing, understand now, was thinking of a stick with prongs on and wondering how it would move :p
