Its a matter of choice also what resolution you are running at 6/8 foot should be minimum on these size sets

37" about 8-9 foot should be ideal. If you are viewing HD content, you can get away with being a bit closer.

I purchased the sony v3000 from JL with the ps3. It is 40", I am about 9-10 foot away. I am not sure whether it is too big for the room. Does anyone know the ideal viewing distance for a 40"?

Thanks

if 6-8 foot is a minimum for a 32/37", what about a 26"? 4-6 foot? Isnt 26" LCD is the same viewable screen as a 28" CRT?

no as crt will not be 720P m8 so you need to be nearer to see the benefit of the HD 720P resoulution, to far back and it will be like watching standard broadcast, 4 to 5 feet i would think would be about right.

Yes, more or less, part of the CRT Screen is hidden behind the outer casing, so visible screen is as you suggest on an LCD.
