Defo try before you buy. Take someone along that knows what to look for. A guitar with crap action will put you off big time.

I was going to say one of these. That's what I started on.

There have been a couple of threads in the past including these:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/381262/guitar-and-amp-package/
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/375238/wanted-electric-guitar-amp/

However, as has been suggested, nothing beats trying guitars/amps out in the shop before you buy, even if it's just to try it out and then buy cheaper online.

Also try sites like http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/http://www.guitaretab.com/http://www.guitartabs.cc/
where you can find lots of guitar tab to help you learn some songs.

No. Generally speaking, Argos just doesn't sell high-quality specialist gear, and that guitar there is just a Chinese made cheapie that's designed to be the cheapest guitar that it can be, and not to be any good or anything. I think you're far better off going to your local Gumtree.com and having a look at what's on offer there. D'you want to tell us where you are, and I can link to a few currently-listed guitars that I'd recommend? There's bound to be something good available right now, and usually, for prices of about half the RRP.
