Basically, my OH's parents just got back from a months tour of france and they brought me back some Leffe Beer for all my help around the house while they have been gone. I have never even heard of this beer and im just wondering if anybody else has ? If you have heard of it and tried it, what is it compared to in like our type of beers e.g. carling, carlsberg, stella etc etc.

Thanks people :) rep for good answers )

Carling, carlsberg, stella are all mass produced lagers - leffe is a stronger, more flavoured beer, a 'trappist' ale originaly brewed by monks in the Belgian region, more like a real-ale in this country. There are three main flavours of leffe - brune, which is quite dark, blonde, which is lighter and triple which is darker and very strong (over 8%). They are very nice, but you'll find you can't drink as much as you would a weaker lager!

PS You don't really need to cool it much, its not really meant to be drunk ice cold like a lager... (maybe cool it a bit in this heat mind!)

It's really smooth and full of flavour. I had loads while riding through France to Spain a few years ago and it was the highlight of every night.

I had a couple in the factory too! All I drink when I go to Dublin. Have to admit, I wasn't too keen on first taste, but it grows on you.

It's beer - you're not wine-tasting here. If you drink it and you get drunk, surely it ticks the boxes ? ;)
