Well, I wasn't expecting this in the least, but Zelda's got itself a season pass...

Please let's not make this another thread just moaning about the Switch for one reason or another, but aside from that, your thoughts would be welcome!

http://www.zelda.com/breath-of-the-wild/news/special-announcement-from-eiji-aonuma/

--------------------
Starting when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launches on March 3, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for $19.99, granting access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year.

Immediately upon pre-purchase or purchase of the Expansion Pass, three new treasure chests will appear in the game's Great Plateau area. One of these treasure chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo that Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two will deliver useful items.

- The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode, and a new feature for the in-game map.
- The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story.

The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game and are identical. Content packs cannot be purchased individually.

"a new hard mode"

You'd kinda hope that would be in the original £50 game to be honest. The rest is par for the course with how developers are nowadays

It will be £17.99 in the UK

Now Nintendo have joined the season pass brigade I fear all hope is lost for the self contained gaming experience complete at point of purchase :(

This sort of reinforces my decision to wait now, I can buy the GOTY edition no doubt will come out as part of some sort of selects package on Switch.

New Super Mario Bros. was the first with DLC of sorts with New Super Luigi U

Don't get me wrong love everything switch! I cant wait to get my hands on this.
With Season Passes Like this my only concern is the size of expansions as 32gb on board memory is a bit poor in today's light. I am a huge Zelda fan and will probably get this on release :)

I also wish they would have released the legendary edition of Zelda in the UK and you would think for the price they could include the season pass!

Nintendo are making there money on this console I hope the Pro Controller and Accessory's come down in price rapidly.

This is making me think of canceling my pre order (wiiu) I do not like this style of business model.

This feels to me like true additional post-release content, rather than things pulled from the base release - I don't think that in itself needs to be seen as a negative.

Already cancelled mine with Amazon. I think the console is going to be littered with Wii u ports for the first couple of years and I already have them all on the Wii u! For the first time with a Nintendo console I am going to wait or out and see what happens :(

I'm hoping this isn't true but considering the image they showed of 3rd party developers they were working with, it is odd they've not announced more projects. I'm just hoping E3 proves us all wrong if not before.

Personally though, it is the ability to play Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon and Mario on the go which is what sells it for me because i'm a rubbish traveller who gets bored easily.

I am holding out for the game library to mature,im not that intrested in Zelda tbh it looks cell shaded again like windwaker, no proper textures, its not enough of a leap forward, from past games , I will defo give Mario a go, I love the releases on wiiu and 3ds, and I kinda expect him to look cartoony so I dont mind, however zelda I wanted something better looking after all these years of waiting on its release!

Also i had really hoped to see some good racing games for once on the Nintendo, 'this' generation, But with no analogue triggers (theyr still only digital) it rules out any seriouse racing simulations, as you wont be able to accurately control accelerating or feather the brakes around the corners.

Each to their own, but personally I love the aesthetic of Breath of the Wild (and Wind Waker, for that matter) - and I know that I'm far from alone in that. There's more to 'good graphics' than targeting photo-realism, and for that matter, graphics don't make a game.

Yay, we all wanted Nintendo to catch up with the times now they have paid online services, they have season passes in more games. They have ports/remasters of their fairly recent games....

The switch release was disappointing, and every bit of news is becoming less attractive from Nintendo.

Hey, at least that shizzle will be portable now though.

Truly disappointed with Nintendo. This latest stunt takes the biscuit. Hard mode included in the season pass? Wrap up Nintendo.
