I am going to be moving to another privately rented house and they are interviewing me tomorro. I am on housing benefit, they said thats ok. Anyone been to an interview for a house before? I have never been to an interview for a house before!!! Last time I rented where I am living now there was no interview. I am just wondering what they may ask!

Have you got a reference from a previous landlord, that would be handy. They may also ask you if anyone can act as a guarantor for you

Thanks StarSparkle. I am taking my mum with me (shes my guarantor). Been renting private for past 3 years and had no probs never been late with payment etc will be sure to mention that. The house is so nice that I have found - seen so many and this one is perfect!

I never heard of anyone being interviewed before - not sure if because of housing benefit or if thats just what they do.

I am worried about credit check too as I am lone parent, just finished uni and so have low income. I dont think I have a bad credit rating, I just dont have much of one

I've been for an interview along with 2 other lads we were hoping on renting together, he basically priced us out of renting the apartment. He didn't want us in there but wasn't going to say it in so many words I wouldn't have wanted us in there either. You've got previous though so it should be fine, it's just a matter of them meeting you seeing what you're like by asking you a few questions about your lifestyle where you work how much you earn :)

you'l be fine, I've never heard of the interview before, but then again 6 years ago since I went through an estate agent, you have your mum as a guarantor, that will do, I know they've changed the rules a bit and it's hard for HB claimants, but still......... you'll be ok, go for it, and good luck, hope you get it!

BTW don't fall for their, 'someone else is interested' lark, if there's things about the place you don't like tell them!!!!

Thanks, there was a few things that I will mention. Its amazing how much rubbish is out there, I have looked at some complete dives. I am actually surprised, more are accepting housing benefit now than 3 years ago when I was looking - prob because there are so many places which arent let on the market where I live. I really hope I get it too! Thanks so much Star Sparkle

hiya, a lot of estate agents are interviewing as the landlord pays them commision to act on their behalf, so they need to check you out themselves, as if anything goes wrong, its on their head, just go in be yourself and answer any questions truthfully, tell them you have interviews lined up though ;), stress what your earnings will be with a degree, dont say "if i get my degree" best of luck
