Well, that's it. No more.

At least the ending was way better than I first thought it was going to be. Keeps it open...

Ashes to Ashes starts next year starring Gene Hunt in the 80s

but what a crap ending to a crap show!

2 years of oh I am in coma oh yes I am in a coma, I know I wont bother looking to see if the people i dreamt about actually existed, instead I will kill myself and be accepted back into the squad even though I got them shot and admitted I am a grass.

Not the 70s I remember more like the BBC Head of Shite Entertainments view of the 70s.

This is the end my beautiful friend ... the end?

I heard a rumour Sam may return back to a different time. Is that the Ashes to Ashes thing? Anyway missed a few episodes so gonna enjoy rewatching :-D

Gene Hunt only in Ashes to Ashes, Sam dies on the way to the hospital in real life.
#7
How do you know he dies in real life??? Predicting the future in addition to Natzi tendancies?
banned#8
he is making it up as he goes along :giggle:

Philip Glennister was interviewed on chat after the show and John Sim has announced he will not be in the next series and the implication is he has died in real life, hence the sounds of the ambulance men saying we are losing him...
#10
Maybe they forgot to close the ambulance door and he started to roll out the back! Strange things happen on TV.

I once tried to go back in time, but I missed the last bus to Manchester.

I would wait till 2008 as the Ashes to Ashes series has not had the official green light from the BBc yet

John Simm obviously has bigger and better stuff to go onto now he is a 'superstar'. Like playing boring impressionist painters.
I'd have thought he could do better than that. His options must be pretty much open now.

His next project is a stage play...and of course he's busy being a new Dad.

Gutted that it is finished, John Simm & Phillip Glennister were great together.

The ending was fitting, but it did annoy me a little, Sam being a policeman and all, him not checking up on his friends from the past to see if they did exist and if they were police or not.

I am hoping in Sam is indeed not a main part of Ashes to Ashes, that he has merely been transfered or promoted etc so we may get to see him occasionally.

btw Bowie is a GOD

Sounds like a terrible idea.

The BBC trying to catch lightning in a bottle & running the very real risk of screwingthe memory of Life on Mars...small wonder they've changed the name to distance it?!?!

Only if you have seen all of The Sweeney DVDs as that is far better.

I think a very open mind is needed for the spin off. At first, you think, hmmmm heard this before (!) but hey, lets see what they pull out of the bag.

It will be either Ashes to Ashes or will it settle to become dust to dust?

I think the format was right already. Take John Simm out of the mix and it isn't the same. I like Philip Glenister, don't get me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed Island At War too, where he plays a German officer. I rate Glenister as an actor. But Life On Mars was all about seeing Sam and Annie get together (wasn't it?)
To tell the truth, I watched it to see Liz White. Annie Cartwright is sublimely cute, to the point of perfection.
Tuesday nights won't be the same for me.

missed it last night and couldn't wait til next week to watch it on bbc 4 so downloaded it today.

absolutely outstanding a great way to finish the best thing on the bbc for years. was expecting some crappy ending much in the same way quantum leap finished but this was perfect. just vague enough to leave you wondering but giving just enough answers to leave you satisfied.

well done bbc. but just hope this ashes to ashes thing lives up to this and is not just the bbc ripping the proverbial out of something successful and ending up up doing a celebrity aftershow spin off on bbc 3 with dic and dom and celebrity pets.:w00t:

Errr I found that copper Bird the most annoying character ever and what a hopeless actress.

LOM was about fat beer swilling fast car driving coppers feeling collars, the inclusion of the woman smacked of.... ooops no female viewers lets have some vague love interest.

I dont remember Dennis Waterman falling for Rula Lenska.... oh wait bad example and wrong TV show.

Anyway its over for all its faults, que endless ramblings about what a great show it was and endless clips on Channel 5's Greatest Shows about Cops

Just a thought.......upon watching the last episode again. After Sam has jumped of the building and returned to 1973. When he is talking to Chris in the pub, he tells him he will make a great copper. I wonder if this is sarcasm or if you are just meant to assume that although you did not see him look them up, he did.
banned#29
If he did look them up he would have found they were all dead and therefore that guy would not have made a good cooper.

Remember he left them in the middle of an impossible gunfight...

Also if they had survived the gunfight he would have found out that he wasnt around in the 1980s to partner Gene Hunt and the main reason for going back was to be working with him again... lets just ignore that awful kiss at the end of the show.
#30
If Sam really was in the 70's and dreamt the future, how could he dream about Maggie Thatcher, mobile phones, Tony Blair, Red Rum winning the national, that copper would become Chief of Police, modern day slang for drugs and loads of other things?
Loved the show nonetheless but there's loads of loose ends.

The Gene Hunt show will be good and I imagine the copper that wants to be like Sam will take over the 'do it right' role.
#31
what about Mia?
#32
He could imagine her or could even have been the name given to him in his undercover role as his false girlfriend
banned#33
He was in the noughties but went back to the 70s while in a coma.. He was not based in the 70s and therefore would have full knowledge of the future.

Girlfriend and Serial Killer plot completely forgotten about...
#34
Absoluetly brilliant series but I thought the ending was totally confusing and didn't really answer all the questions that a series finale should.

I was expecting a really good twist at the end that would explain all the little details throughout the series.

Biggest confusion for me is how did he know he would end up in a coma after jumping off the roof, what if he had gone splat and died, he'd have been neither in 1973 or 2007 then.

Other things I that did/didn't happen.

Guy's got blasted in tunnel turn up with a bandage on thier arms.
I thought the barman would have a far more important role at the end.
I thought he would meet some of his collegues when he returned to 2007.

Also if Gene is carrying on in the 80's would he not be pensioned off by then, assuming he is mid forties in 1973 that would make him mid fifties in Ashes to Ashes.

Will he have a Capri or a RS200 like Bodie & Doyle? (although I have heard he is to have an Audi Quattro, which makes it mid to late 80's make Gene even older)

Cracking series in the whole tho. Do you think it will return?

BBC already announced new series.

Series ending just smacks of 'stop it quick and screw the logic'.

he couldn't have been in the present day because he would've died when he jumped off the roof.
He used the 'jump' in his unconcious mind to snap him out of his amnesia and bring him back to reality in the tunnel.
#37
ashes to ashes 2 points 1.David Bowie song? 2.No female lead casted yet.
#38
I bet Ashes 2 Ashes has at least 1 ex-eastender in it.

I think Russell Brand should be his sidekick, that I would like to see. They'd get on really well.

What show were you watching? :)

At the end of the show he hears the ambulance crew on the radio saying we are losing him.... hence he is dying on the way to hospital.

It was already explained that DCI Morgan was actually his surgeon.

Very bizarre the way some people go off on complete tangents

If he is indeed from the time of the 'reality in the tunnel' how does he know about mobile phones, Margaret Thatcher and the idiosyncracies of the modern day police force, I am sure this has been mentioned before.
