I was going to ask this. Didn't Philips do a telly with a backlight? What was their selling point? I never saw one in the flesh.

E-Bay has loads of stuff, get 5m led string for about £17 and then a transformer for about a tenner.

Philips is Ambilight where it changes to what's showing on the screen.

Wiki
Ambilight, which is short for Ambient Lighting Technology, is a feature invented by Philips Electronics, generating light effects around the TV that correspond to the video content. The effect, the company claims, is a larger virtual screen and a more immersive viewing experience. In addition, Philips claims that it reduces viewer eye strain. Ambilight also reduces the visibility of a typical LCD problem: backlight bleed.

Buy a Philips with ambilight spectra 3...it is awesome imho. I have the 56" home cinema tv and love it...changes every time the screen changes and although people think ti is a gimmick....whata gimmick it is awesome as is the tv itself.

Good luck
