LIMITED HOT DEAL: 42" Panasonic Viera TH42PX60

I'm sure many of you are fully aware at what a great price this is for this tv, as many people on this forum were going crazy about this being over £1000 recently and according to John Lewis, they've received a very high volume of demand for this package.

This package includes the Plasma TV which seems to be around the £900 mark on it's own, the official stand, which seems to be around the £500 region, 5 years warranty which costs anywhere between £250-£500 from most competitors and delivery but we spoke to our Local John Lewis in Oxford Street and managed to make them pricematch with a company called WWW.ASKDIRECT.CO.UK who are based in Tottenham Court Road.

When we spoke to this other company, they said they would let us have this package for £899 including delivery and they would deliver the same evening but we opted to wait an extra week for delivery and pay £15 more due to the 5 years warranty.

Hope this is useful to anyone in london and hope this TV will be as good as all the reviews have made out but make sure to get the pricematch, as i think the instore price is £200 higher than the price we bought it for

New thread started for those that wish to continue the discussion here :)

Thanks guys.

i was just about to make a reply to lol - so i copy and pasted, here it is, but not sure if it makes sense now lol -,you guys could have told me there was a way of opening the box from the bottom - i hurt my back lifting it out lol. yeah ive set it up, took ages to make the stand. mainly cos im a procastonater - or however you spell it lol. i havent actually tuned in the channels or anything yet, sky just came straight on. so im watching ugly betty. it seem massive compared to my other tv.
what did you guys do with all the packaging? there's tons of the stuff. and yes i did almost drop it lol.

I contemplated putting it in the yard and renting it out. Obscene amount of cardboard to dispose of isn't it. I ended up giving someone my 28" CRT on the agreement they took my cardboard to the tip. Took an age to flatten with those pesky industrial staples!

lol, think i'll recycle mine - its only right.
#5
To my best awareness it went in the recycling section. The guy's a policeman so I'm expecting an ounce of common sense...

There's a way of opening it from the bottom? I knew it! I recruited an unwilling helper to retrieve it from the darkest depths of box hell.

It's in the garage all nice and neat just in case it has to go back!

Nice to see this thread moved even though:

1. It works.

2. It is still more or less on-going for some.

Let's hope the Forum Pilice can do the same with Threads for non existent deals that never were/are/will be.

im watching the friday night project next lol. i thought some1 said you could throw the box away, surely you cant be expected to keep it for 5 years lol.

Oh no, does that make me the 'grass'? :)

Speaking of which. Forum Constable Beeching wishes he could make sure blatantly bad deals could die a dignified death, rather than face a public stoning. It's not nice to watch and I guarantee makes people feel terrible for trying.
#14
Yeah grass lol

How much space can one thread actually take up:? lol
#15
Hehe, I don't know why I decided to play snitch (that's the word I was looking for before, I blame the 5:35pm drink start). Just seemed like the thread was hanging out at the top of the forum, whilst not really benefiting the deal aspect of the site anymore.

Not at all, just a concerned "citizen of the forum". Here Here (and for the record I'm not being sarcastic).

I can see this Thread going Off Topic, lets see how far we can take it. :-D

nope, very quiet. why have you?

I'm moving house soon - can't have enough boxes! The stand one is a great size and very strong. I'd have them all off you if they didn't cost so much to post!
#26
Glad to see dunno *finally* got his telly and can worship at the altar of viera ;)
In terms of boxes - i stuck the stand one in the tv one and droped it off at the tip - where the nice bloke said he'd flat pack it for me :-D
As for taking out from the bottom i can only say "noooooo!" - i got mine out thru the top with a mate - didn't even notice a bottom way... C'est la vie.
Was annoyed this morning as i turned my DVD on and the picture was all grey and fuzzy :( swapped scarts and that didn't do it - but swap it from AV3 to AV2 and works fine again???? - may have to check on warranty for this.
#27
I'm confused about the "take it out the bottom/top" talk.

Didn't everyone just remove the 4 plastic clips that held the box onto the base and lift the box off revealing the TV and other items?

No, hence I proclaim myself an idiot. But what's really bugging me is that my 'Y' key on my laptop needs an excessive amount of force to work. I also have a pounding headache and woke up with a guitar 20 mins ago...

So does anyone know if in general you can just prise off keys on laptops?
#31
i dont know, my dvd re-writer thing has broke which is annoying. its still under warrarnty but i cant be bothered to take it back to the shop lol.

so what are you guys using to clean you tv's? is it ok to use house hold polish? i dont want to damage her lol.
#32
Found out my problem with the dvd.... hit the button twice it toggles from AV3 to AV3/S - and crappy black and white snowy picture - no wonder it was playing up (so be careful what you press!!!)

#34

I've heard of waking up with some bad things, but a guitar, now that takes the biscuit. Bet she's a beauty though!

You can but I doubt this would help unless the button itself is stuck rather than the switch below which is sealed.
#37
does anyone know how to get the sky remote to operate the tv aswell? lol.
1 Like #38
Hi Dunno

1. Turn the TV on
2. Press tv on the Sky remote
3. Hold down select and the red key together for about two seconds until the red light on the Sky remote blinks twice
4. Key in 678 on the Sky remote and press select. Try turning off the TV with the top right button.
5. Sky remote should now operate the TV:thumbsup:

Worked for me anyway!

Just realised that this is probably only for a Panasonic Sky digibox. If you have a different make, take a look in the instruction manual that came with it. There should be a page or two towards the end about setting the remote to operate the TV.
