Nope.

I have the same issues, it's the audio codecs installed in the PS3 that are missing. There may be a way to re-encode the file, but as I'm unsure which audio codec is at fault, I couldn't say.

if its just a SD avi, use ps3 mediaserver.

Simples

Struggle with HD over wireless though

thanks for the help, i used virtual dub to re-encode the audio but it fell way out of sync so tried the original on the 360 instead.

new question has any body installed linux on the ps3? im thinking this will be an easier way to play mkv files rather than running them through mkv2vob

Hmmmm, seriously considered it and was looking at yellow dog, but just seems too much like hard work.

Plus, the last time I looked there seemed to be some dubiety regarding whether the ps3 running linux would be able to read/write to an external drive formatted to NTFS....

If Sony just added ntfs and mkv support.....gah! :x

Linux is easy to install, my hubby has done it!

you are only given a small part of the power, so it can't play back high def files.

Linux can see NTFS but the PS3 can't see it.

Hope this helps.
