Liverpool have completed the signing of striker Robbie Keane from Tottenham for a fee that could rise to £20.3m.

Keane, 28, underwent a medical on Monday after agreeing personal terms on a four-year contract worth around £80,000 a week over the weekend.

And he will now join up with the Reds as they fly to Spain for Wednesday's friendly against Villarreal.

More to follow.

And spurs aren't a selling club????

Gareth Barry would have been a better deal......Keane is nowhere near worth £10 mill

And if Robbie Keane played for West Ham, you wouldn't be pleased at that little bit of business? Every club sells players. Some sell to survive, some sell because its good business and the player expresses a desire to join another club. The fact remains, Spurs spend big and always have. I cant believe you would say the same for West Ham?

I personally didnt want Keane to leave. He is a battler and thats a great quality to have. If Berbatov had half his battleing qualities, he would probably be regarded as one of, if not the best forward in the world. As it stands, it was always odds on Berbatov would leave. He's now gone on record as saying he would stay if Spurs signed a world class forward to play along side. Guess thats the aim, or maybe cash in and buy more quality players.

Which sums it up really. I doubt you are unhappy at the signing - just the amount? I think a partership of Keane and Torres will be quite effective. A good signing, just about £8M over the top IMHO.

If he gets results im all for it.

At £20M for Keane we are :w00t:

One of my fave players but like has been said worth half that £20M.

Now for a replacement :whistling:

Why pay £20m for Keane when he could of got villa for a little bit more who is a better player and already has a partnership with torres. Plus, he's spanish - how did Benitiez miss that!

tottenham ends up getting villa

that much for a 28 year old who is way too much....in a couple of seasons hell be in his 30s and we'll be lucky to get a quarter of that amount for him

apart from that a good signing - hopefully will take some pressure off Torres

now we need to get rid of Voronin - i would rather see a kid given a chance than that waste of space

Benitez might have missed that, but I don't think Ramos has!!!:p

Keanes replacement will either be Villa or Arshavin....... We'll see!!!!

Not what was that about Spurs being a selling club Rediron?

No I wouldn't as your going to find it hard to replace him like for like

I can't think of any Prem proven strikers that will get as many goals as Keane did that will cost you under £20 million, plus he was a Spurs idol so it's always a bit harder on the fans to sell

The fee agreed with Man U is alledgedly £27M. Though there are rumours of a £25M offer from AC Milan, though it sounds like that money has now gone on Ronaldinho. If he has to go, Id prefer him going to Italy at a lower value.

To be honest as good a player as Berbatov clearly is, he wouldnt represent as sad a loss as Keane will be.

No clubs fans like to see their favs sold, but if the replacements are improvements, then I'm for it.

Keane was popular, I'll never deny that and I think he will probably be applauded by the fans when he returns. Unlike a certain Judas that left in the past! (No points for guessing whom I refer!)

I dont believe for one moment the replacement will be from the Premier either. Think Russian or Spanish!
#18
Keane is worth 20m if he gets us in the title race and still in it by march/april, people don't know what they are talking about when they doubt benitez's signings.
#19
il give rafa a bit of credit.keane is a better player than the peter lamp post crouch
#20
surly if villa was or is for sale liverpool would have gone for him.... You only have to look at the euros to see how villa and Torres get on. When villa scored who did he run too torres who was on the bench! So if he was gonna come to the prem who would he want to play with???
As for keane i think he's a proven goalscorer and always will be as for the fee yes too much but do top clubs really care.. no cause they know they will get it back one way or the other!
All in all good signing for everyone involved and out of interest keanes transfer fee's have been incredible in his career does anyone know excatly how much.... But i'm sure he's been happy picking up his signing on fee's each time.... Do players still get signing on fee's...... Also one other very happy person. HIS AGENT!

With you there
#22
Keane is actually £19m with a potential £1.3m in addons

Villa is unproven in the Prem league, whereas Keanes has spent his whole career in England. Plus Torres and Villa don't have that great a partnership, it doesn't work that well for Spain. I think Keane is a good move, maybe a tad expensive, but it takes liverpool up a step, then it's worth it

£20 million for keane? benitez has finally lost the plot

Seeing as Keane was 100% Tottenham and the worst culprit for badge kissing in the Prem it's quite bad for him to jump ship as soon as possible, especially when he demanded a transfer, so I can't really see him being applauded

By Spanish I guess you mean Villa, I can't see that happening to be honest, his comments about Tottenham would be to get a big club interested, also with Villa there must be some reason their why Benitez didn't pay the extra and go for Villa himself as it's well known he is a admirer of him and the partnership of Torres and Villa is already proven

As for Russia it's got to be Pavlyuchenko he's not proven in the Premiership though so is a big risk, I also don't think he will be able to replace the goals Keane got, could be worth a gamble but I don't see him as a replacement for Keane, more a replacement for Bent if he were to leave

Santa Cruz and Kanoute are other options but it all depends on whether you lose Berbatov too

does this mean Gareth Barry is history and/or going to Arsenal?

The best bit of business so far this Summer has to be West Ham picking up Valon Behrami for only £5.2 million, absolute bargain and we didn't have to use Rule 17 to get him which is good to see

Unless Alsono goes I can't see Barry coming in, unless Hicks and Gillet win the lottery :)

I can see either Downing or Joaquin being signed (In an ideal world David Silva), along with a new RB (Rafinha) and thats about it.

We'll play him at RW then and put Faubert at RB, all this new versatility in our squad is great

Not sure if we need a new RB, Carra, Degen, Finnan and even Arbeloa still at the moment, although he wants to leave. Silva would be good, would give the option of a 4 - 2 - 2

--Finnan - Carra - Agger - Dossena

-----Silva - Gerrard - Barry - Babel

-----------Torres ------- Keane

Keane, Carra, Gerrard, Barry as experienced players, with younger ones like Silva, Torres, Babel should be a nice balance
#32
I should add aswell that this is a very good move for Liverpool, yes the fee is high but they have taken away one of their main rivals for 4th's best strikers and it look s if the other one will be leaving too.

Tottenham will find it very difficult if not near on impossible to bring in two strikers who are as good as Keane and Berbatov and they will also need to be able to adept very quickly to life in the Premier League. Meaning Liverpool shouldn't be as worried about Tottenham beating them to 4th as they have been is past seasons

Arbeloa will be off over the next couple of weeks, and Degen is injured (already) for a while)so I can definitely see a new RB coming in....Finnan is getting on a little now.

Can't believe you've left Mascherano out of that team - shame on you :w00t:

Spurs have declared their interest for quite some time. Its obvious his first choice is Real, but they've not come in for him. For Spurs to have let Keane go, you can bank there is someone in the pipeline.

No, I was referring to Arshavin.

Santa Cruz may be an option, but not Kanute. Also dont forget the target of Bentley to go along with the new signings of Modric, Gomez and Santos.

Speculation? Yes of course.

That's why I think he said he would be open to a move to you, he's forcing clubs like Real to make their move now

No, I was referring to Arshavin.

Again untested but he looks like he will adept well to the Prem, he wants champions League though so it reains to be seen whether he will move to Tottenham but then again Behrami wanted CL football and he moved to us so you never know

Santa Cruz may be an option, but not Kanute. Also dont forget the target of Bentley to go along with the new signings of Modric, Gomez and Santos.

ntested again though, there's the possibilities ther having a great squad but it can easily enough go tits up and you can end up like us when we signed Teve and Mascherano

Speculation? Yes of course.

That's what makes the transfer window so great

Most liverpool fans and players won't be thinking like that, they will be aiming a bit higher than 4th place.

you're talking as if they will be aiming for 4th place

I wouldnt have paid 19mil for Keane or 18mil for Barry - 10 mil too expensive each

I'd have rather sold Alonso for 12mil & got Villa for £32 mil

Yeh I know what you mean. I know we cant compete with Real particularly since he does want to go there, but if they dont sign........

Again, he's gone on record as saying he would like to play for Real or Arsenal. But Spurs do have a realistic chance of success.

Without belittleing West Ham, they were a bit too good for the club compared to the rest of the squad - and thats without the rule infringments. I did see one West Ham game with Tevez and that was at Charlton where you lost 4-0. The performance was an embarrasment, but Tevez stood out head and shoulders as the best player on the pitch. You did well to get rid of Harewood in particular. It was obvious on that day he thought he was above his station and was a "bigger" player than he is. But I digress!!!!:p

That's what makes the transfer window so great

Absolutely.

I had nowhere to fit him in, i believe Barry/Gerrard is a tried and tested combination, and i'm not sure if Mascherano/Gerrard works as well in a 4-4-2

No, I was referring to Arshavin.

.....Also dont forget the target of Bentley.....

Arshavin has his heart set on a Barca move, and any deal for Bentley probably would have been done in the Robinson deal
