Liverpool sack Benitez - Reports the Daily Mirror

Rafa Benitezs Anfield reign is over.

The decision was taken to sack the Liverpool manager tonight, after the club board came to the conclusion he had lost the dressing room.

Player power proved his downfall after several of the Reds biggest stars, including Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, made clear their loss of faith in the manager.

Bit shocked tbh, but at least it's put one will he/won't he saga put to bed.... just need Torres and Gerrard to state their intentions now.

I'm sure we won't disappoint :) Going by last season, we can make anyone look good on our day.

Will be interesting to see who the owners have got lined up as the new manager.

With Newcastle, Albion and Blackpool being the three promoted teams I feel a bit more confident about staying up

The Echo are reporting that they've offered him a pay-off, as have Sky, the BBC and the tabloids..... if you're waiting for the official site to make an announcement, try looking in about 6 months time.

He whould probally do a better job than the fat waitor
#22
£3 mil up front with a structured compensation package.
#23
not sacked, just a severance package

It was clear during the season that he had lost the dressing room. Players dont believe in him anymore which means he has to go. Remember that picture of Gerrard when Torres was substituted against Birmingham, his face said it all

Time for him to go. As a big Liverpool fan I have given him a lot of time. His downfall came last summer when instead of building upon a good season and buying another striker and a creative midfeilder, he went and bought Johnson who is a good player but overpriced, and Acqualini who hadnt completed a game for 18 months before he signed for us for £20 million. He should have been half that price with his injury record

What great teams has he ruined to date? We've improved significantly since he took over (bar last season).

It's not like we were Champions League semi-finalists one season, and then relegated a couple of years after he took over :p

Dalglish and Rush to take over ..........

Good god no. Kenny has been out of the game for 10-15 years and it's changed too much over that time for him to come back and make an impact.

It seems that the owners and Martin Broughton have told him that he only has £5m to spend this summer, and Rafa's response was that he can't do his job with that transfer kitty. So quite rightly they've told him his services are no longer needed if he can't do his job with the restrictions imposed on him.

I didn't want him to go, but if he has said he can't do the job, the owners are quite right to find someone else who can.

I still can't see who's going to take us forward atm. No one of any winning pedigree is going to come to a situation that is so messed up atm.

No money, no support.

We need a miracle.

I think you need to revise your ambitions....who's going to help you fight relegation?

Phil Brown did it at a similar club.

Dalglish coming back reminds me of this.......

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7192457.stm

.... and we all no how that turned out.

Bringing him in will get the fans of the owner's backs for a short amount of time, but it might be a bad move by Kenny.

With no money, we need to go for a manager who'll get the players we've already got playing to the best of their ability....our squad isn't that bad on paper, so if someone could turn that into performances we might be okay. Any signings on top of that would be a bonus.

Is Kenny the man to get the players playing again? Who knows.
#35
Hopefully Roy Hodgson as a replacement. Top four finish
#36
I cant believe they have appointed Paul Ince :( !!!!!!!!!!

We were a nothing team in Europe before Benitez took over, and nowadays not many foreign clubs fancy playing against us. Fair enough he hasn't been able to bring us the league title, but he's got us closer than we've been for a hell of a long time. He's bought in players like Torres, Reina and Mascherano when we'd been used to the likes of Diouf, Diao and Kirkland - I'd hardly say we haven't improved.

Last season's bad form wasn't just down to the manager. Imo, if the players have had anything to do with forcing him out then it's a disgrace. The club will be around for a lot longer than Gerrard / Torres etc.......

Actually with our levels of debt, maybe not :w00t:

Guillem Balague has just been on SSN!

Saying Torres might be interested in Chelsea and Stevie has 4 offers from English clubs  If we're gonna rebuild, looks like we'll be doing it completely.

Can't see any of our players going anywhere but abroad.

Regardless of the mess the club are in, at least Everton have managed to bring a smile to Liverpool supporter's today
