Liverpool - top six finish??

Have they got an easy run in or something? (Relative to citeh, villa and spurs)

Because Liverpool are 2/1 to finish outside the top 6, and those 3 all have games in hand or points in the bag (or both). Looks to me like Liverpool are in a dogfight with Everton for 7th

btw Does 7th place carry a Europa league spot?

On paper it's an easy run in (only Chelsea at home and possibly Birmingham away should be tricky). But then again, Wigan away, Wolves away, Pompey away (etc, etc) should all have been easy for us.

7th will only carry a Europa League spot if Chelsea, Villa or Spurs win the FA Cup, as they'll already have European spots from their league positions (as long as Villa and Spurs finish above Liverpool in the league).

Betfair, lay liverpool to finish in the top 6 @ 1.49 (equivilent to backing them to finish outside the top 6). thinking about it myself, CBA to google all the fixtures. Rep waiting

EDIT Think you get a £25 sign up bonus at betfair too - its all good

Man Utd, ECL
Arsenal, ECL
Chelsea, ECL
Spurs, ECL (or FA cup win gives another Europa place to the losing finalist)
Man City, Europa
Villa, Europa (win FA cup, automatic qualification)
Liverpool, Europa (Win Europa automatic qualification)
Everton, Europa

could the top 8+1(losing FA cup winner) get into Europe?

Top four get Champions League, and fifth go into the Europa League.

Sixth place will now also go into the Europa League, as United won the Carling Cup.
Seventh place will also go into the Europa League, if Chelsea, Spurs or Villa win the FA Cup (providing the winner finishes in the top six)
Eighth place will also go into the Europa League, if Liverpool win this season's Europa League.

Don't think any more places can be awarded, unless the Fair Play league is still used.

I think they will finish 7th. They deserve to be no higher.

The quality of this league at the moment is pretty amazing.

In all honesty, I agree. It amazes me how poor all of the 'big four' have been at times this season (well....us for the majority of the season).

Have they been poor or have other teams been very good?

Take Villa, Spurs and Fulham as examples. They have played some of their best football in years.

It's a mix of both, the teams you mentioned (and Man City) have taken big strides this season, but some of the performances by Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and United have been pretty dire. It's only going to be good for the Premier League if things continue like this, but probably won't bode sell well for us in Europe.

I think the lower and mid table teams are able to defend a lot better this season. The big 4-6 haven't found it so easy to pick up an easy win anywhere.

Apart from our 4-2 win at chelsea

Are you likely to "do a Leeds" if you finish outside the top four? If you say no, what are the key differences? I suppose the 80m you get from Torres will help :w00t:

Personally i think there will be a mass exodus at anfield at the end of the season with Torres and Gerrard heading for the door amongst others:thumbsup:

It would take a lot for us to "do a Leeds" especially now the new investment from the Rhone Group looks like a goer (Hicks' and Gillette's willingness to talk should hopefully also bring other bidders back into the frame too). With Leeds, they'd got players on ridiculously high wages, that when it came to selling them (Ferdinand aside) weren't huge assets financially. We've got Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano, Johnson and Reina who would all bring in a lot of money if the **** did hit the fan.

Personally I think Torres will stay for at least one more season. As for Gerrard.. I really don't know (although after his performances this season I don't think he'd missed as much as before). If Real or Inter offered us £30m for him (bearing in mind he's 30) I think he'd be on his way.

As for a mass exodus, I think apart from Riera (and possibly Skrtle and Benayoun) not many will leave

+1 I think the top teams aren't having it as easy as a lot of teams have really been going for it.

Torres has made it clear he wants 5 new players at the club - and not one of Benitez's run of the mill transfers - think he is up to 260 in and out during his reign (total). can't see him getting that, so that will be his reason for leaving. Gerrard I think will stay

Lets just wait and see, good thing is atm with Rafa not holdin the fort to well, at least it will mean the door (not hitting the 4th spot as promised)

I think if Torres and Gerrard have good world cups (which I think they will) I beleive Liverpool will find it impossible to hold on to them, especially if they are not in he ECL next season.

I can't see Torres being rated as one of the top 5 strikers in the world not wanting to be play in the ECL.
