I would work Xmas day for the money, being self employed means I often work Sundays but have a day off in the week, that way it feels better, I hate the routines and doing what you are supposed to.

work in a busy hotel in Cornwall. have to work every 'special' day of the year, no extra pay as working bank holidays is covered in the 28 days holiday entitlement. I don't complain as it was my choice to work in this industry, but would be nice if customers were a bit more appreciative of all the staff who give up their holidays to look after them.

''This industry''

I worked for IHG for 15 years within the Holiday inn and Crowne Plaza chains.

X-mas day is double for all staff and boxing day is time and half.

Bank holidays are considered part of your holiday allowance?
Is that normal?

Doesn't seem like it should be, forced holiday. . . .
I get about 33 or so a year and that doesn't include Bank Holidays.

Sounds like you get paid pennies if the company feels the need to triple the rate of pay. I'm on just short of 35k if that helps.

you do realise that is only about £15 a hour for a 40 odd hour week, or just £14 for a 48 hour week, and i'm the one being paid pennies?
