Lloyds Tsb Debit card help?

Hi, I have a basic debit card, and it lets me take money from cashpoint just fine.

However if I try to use it in a shop it says I have entered wrong pin! Any ideas?

Thanks.

How strange...go to a Lloyds TSB cash point and change your pin number, if it's still doing it phone your bank.

saying that though it says on cashcard can be used for shops so therefore you need to contact bank and ask

Go to a cashpoint as others have said and select PIN Services - either unlock pin if its now locked or change pin - on mine it let me change it to the same thing and then it worked fine. If you do get it wrong again, it will lock then just go to the cashpoint and unlock it

Is the chip on the card dirty or worn? It could possibly be because of this, POS (Point of Sale) machines read from the chip only, therefore if it cant verify the card PIN from the chip it may say it is incorrect. ATMs on the other hand initially read from the chip, then if they are unable to read from the Mag stripe, which is why it may work in an ATM but not a POS machine.

There is a test you can do to find out (although its better to just order a new card) if you use an ATM which has a 'dip' style reader, i.e you can still see the card when it is inserted these only read the card from the mag strip when the card is pulled out, therefore if it can't read from the chip it asks you to remove the card, then insert your pin. If it does this then it is reading from mag strip, if it asks you to insert a PIN with the card still inserted then it is reading from the chip.

Based on my own experience, and that of my eldest son, I'd get as far away from Lloyds as you possibly can.
