The brain has about been estimated to contain from 10^14 to 5 × 10^14 (100-500 trillion) synapses... Each is 20 to 40 nm long, thats a total length of about 20,000km!

It's True.

The guy who measured this is a FOAF OAF OAFOAF.
So it's true!

Well, a gap, and at the same time a chemical (or electrical) interconnect - the wonderful world of science eh!

My daughter is constantly trying to wash the marks off her wrists and hands.

In fact these are her veins, and I keep telling her that they are special roads in her body to carry her blood around.

I realise this explanation is a far cry from the scientific one, but hey - I get it alot more and so does my 38 month old.

Lol

Theres a fascinating statistic about how big the brain would be if you completely unfolded it and stretched it flat. Unfortunately I can't remember it (:giggle:) - maybe Chesso can help?

About the size of a big plate if you did a rubbish job of flattening it!!
TBH I never remember those sorts of interesting number or size things, although I seem to think that the flattened out lungs would be about the size of a tennis court.

The brain has the same consistency as a stiff blancmange while it's receiving oxygen. Once it's preserved etc, it goes a lot harder.... mmmmm, squishy...
