They could have chosen to build a nice pretty sculpture and make everything look nice.
But no, an ugly mangled-rollercoaster type sculpture has been chosen.
And if you think the pictures are crazy enough....it costs £16 Million pounds! :O

i'm sure they have already sorted stewards out - seem to remember something from a year or so ago - they held some sort of comp or the like

someone might be able to verify this

Possibly, but you can still be a volunteer if you really wanted to go.

Looks like the engineers played too much World Of Goo during the design stage....
#13
Still, at least it'll be painted red and not like the eyesore, B of the Bang, we had here in Manchester, which was only red with rust!! Now that WAS a total waste of money and it almost demolished itself with the amount of bits that fell off it!!

Can you imagine bits falling off this at the height it's going to be!

Why are they trying to be so contemporary and going for the modern art, pile of sh*t theme again ? This makes the logo look well designed. The spend billions on a database that doesn't work, millions on a logo that nobody likes and millions on a horrible structure. Government needs new staff ! Government could leave with them actually

This was on my local news, guaranteed an interview if you complete the course. Maybe there are similar schemes being run by other counties or organisations. Worth a look if youare considering volunteering.

I hear it's going to be known as the WOMBLE -

Waste Of Money By London Executives

I think it looks ok, i would like to climb up it.
As for the price... £3 million is not a bad price for something that big.

It's going to cost £19.1 Million.

But the steel comapny are paying for £16 million (almost 84%) so it's only costing "us" £3 million.

I imagine someone will try and climb it after a night on the town and fall off it to their death. The HSE will then make them either take it down or ring it with a gigantic fence so you can't see it.

I kind of like it, better than some of the rubbish they come up with.

Most sculptures like this are hated to begin with but over time become a landmark, I daresay the lady of the north )or whatever it's called) was seen as a monstrosity, now it is a very well known Newcastle landmark.
