I think the duty rate depends on the engine size and whether diesel or petrol but for most cars you would pay 10% duty on the cost of the car + the shipping costs to the UK port (CIF value (cost, insurance freight)) + VAT (15%) on the CIF value + duty amount. I'm making this sound more difficult than it is so say the car costs £10000 + £1000 for the shipping you would pay 10% duty on £11000 which would be £1100 and then VAT on the total cost of £12100 which would be £1815 so total amount of £13915. Hope this helps (if it makes sense :-) )
