Looking for.. 5.1 with optical out..! Argh, annoying TV!

Ok following up from my previous thread a while ago about wanting optical out for my TV. One poster on here suggested using a scart switch (input/output switch). went ahead and bought this little scart to RGB conversion with a input/output switch.

after many many configurations etc. I've not succeeded onto getting the sound from that onto HDMI. it works ok on TV and DTV which is ok... but what i really wanted was proper music for my ps3 and laptop..! gah..! annoying!

So now.. im annoyed and looking for a 5.1 optical out system. any recommendations? in the mean time, is there anything else I can try to make it work?

Stupid design of a LG tv with ONLY optical out for audio..! GRR..

Im currently looking at the Logitech Z 5500, but at ~£220 it be kind of steep. Im sure it sound awesome and I am quite tempted, but maybe a little overkill.

I have a set of these for sale, used once in games room - now prefer to play on main tv downstairs and have Z5450's in lounge. Pretty sure I have the box as well. I'm looking for £180 - pick up only due to weight on the sub. as new condition. Sound rocks on these!

Local pickup info if interested is West Lothian.

Heya, thanks for the post however im as south as you can imagine so getting to you might be a mission :p So why did you choose 5450s over the 5500s?

chose 5450's as they have wireless rear speakers, the OH wouldn't let me run wires round the lounge; and also got them for a decent price. Unfortunately you cant get the 5450s any more though.

What idiot suggested that? How are you meant to get a digital signal through an analogue lead!!

Lol he and i knew it was analogue and not digital, dont worry :p. I was buying it for a temp solution (£1.40 in del. not really much to lose). however it only played TV and DTV (freeview) stuff.. nothing that was showing HDMI VGA etc etc. :( I was hoping that all sound goes into the tv, and from that it might go to the speakers scart output.. but it doesnt.

I'm puzzled as to what you're asking for so maybe misreading your post, when you say you want optical out for your TV, what are you wanting to output the sound to? I had assumed a separate amp but you now seem to be asking for advice on buying an amp/speakers.

~TV only has Optical output
~Person on here (earlier thread) suggested trying scart to RGB input/output flick switch
~The above only outputted tv and dtv audio (no audio coming out of my ps3/dvd/pc)
~Looking for an optical input set of sub/speakers (preferred an all in one set up) to hopefully cure issue of lack of PS3/DVD/PC audio output (HDMI, component and VGA, outputs)
~At current it will only output audio from the tv speakers which simply isnt enough..

What I am assuming now is that on my TV; optical output will actually play EVERYTHING thats played on the TV speakers.

IF it doesnt I will personally throw the tv off the 2nd floor and buy a new one.. :x :gift:

I may wrong but want audio to come frt.om your external inputs such as a PS3 and dvd player but you can't? Why don't you use the optical out from the external inputs into a amp? As I believe the optical out on the TV will carry sound generated from the tv.
