I bought a 2gb stick to put into my brand new acer 521 netbook, with this new stick in the video gets like a pattern in the background kind of ghosted matrix style writing. When i put the original stick in it works fine, both sticks pass memtest and they are the same spec. any ideas or should i just take it back ? tried the latest driver, reinstall and bios flash too

Have you tried with just the new stick on its own?

It could be an incompatibility issues between the two sticks together, or the new stick and the motherboard. Until you know that, I guess you won't know the best way to proceed.

2GB should be enough for that laptop, any more would likely go unused unless your doing something hardcore X)

cheers for the reply
the netbook only has one slot so i think its the MB and new stick, according to acer one forum its quite fussy about the type used, it needs to be 9-9-9 timing. back on ebay it goes lol

Try to find out from any members on that acer forum which stick definitely works in the device and order that. Although they say go for these specific timings, it would suck big time if you bought another with the correct timings and it still didn't work correctly. Try to be 100% on the next purchase, good luck!

Vista hasn't detected the extra RAM enabled some graphics options you didn't have before? Looks like clear type font or something has messed up your screen.

RAM incompatibilities result in blue screens, crashing at random times, not booting and throwing up error codes on boot.

Are you sure it's only got 1RAM slot as most laptops have a panel on the back & one under the keyboard

deffo only has one slot, 2gb is showing in bios and showing in system. everything is set up the same as before and works when i swap the stick back. Clear font types ? any way to change these setting ? (its windows 7)

All manufacturers websites have old out of date drivers, get some new decent ones from the proper sites.
